Will Deebo Samuel Sr. Play in Week 7? Latest on Commanders WR’s Injury Status for Game vs. Cowboys

Commanders WR Deebo Samuel Sr. is dealing with a heel injury. Here's the latest on his status for the Week 7 game against the Cowboys.

Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. was somewhat active in the Commanders’ last-second 25-24 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md.

Samuel caught four passes for 15 yards and rushed one time for minus-1 yards. Yet Samuel was gutting it out as he’d been dealing with a heel injury. At this point, his playing status for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, remains uncertain.

What’s The Latest on Commanders’ Deebo Samuel Sr.?

On Thursday, Samuel didn’t take part in the Commanders’ practice due to his heel injury. However, he did return to practice on Friday and was listed as questionable for Week 7.

On Saturday, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Samuel will not play this week and has not traveled to Dallas with the team.

The Commanders will be without Samuel and Terry McLaurin in Week 7, and it will be tough for Jayden Daniels and Co. to get a result against Dallas.

So far in the 2025 NFL season, Samuel has 34 catches for 315 yards and three touchdowns. He was a second-round pick out of South Carolina for the San Francisco 49ers in the 2019 NFL Draft. Samuel played his first six NFL seasons with the 49ers before joining the Commanders this season.

His best season in the NFL was back in 2021, when he had 77 receptions for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns. Samuel’s longest reception that season was an 83-yarder. Samuel, though, had seven TD catches in the 2023 NFL season for the 49ers.

In the PFSN NFL WR Impact metrics, Samuel has an 80.9 WR Impact Score and grades out at a B-, putting him 22nd among the league’s wide receivers in the metrics themselves. In the PFSN NFL Offense Impact metrics, the 3-3 Commanders have an 87.6 Offense Impact Score and grade out at B+, placing them at fifth in the metrics among all NFL teams.

Samuel is one of those targets that Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels looks for downfield to get open. He has also been used on some end-around sweep plays from the line of scrimmage. However, the veteran wideout didn’t have a great running game against the Bears on Monday night.

Hopefully, both him and McLaurin will be back on the field soon as the Commanders could potentially miss the playoffs if their star players continue to miss games.
