    NFL UDFA Winners and Losers: Which Teams Made Best, Worst Signings After Draft?

    After failing to address running back during the 2024 NFL Draft, many expected the Cowboys to sign one of the best undrafted free agents remaining at the position. Yet Dallas failed to do so, only signing Missouri running back Nathaniel Peat. Thanks to the team’s effort (or lack thereof), Pro Football Network’s Dakota Randall named the Cowboys one of the losers of undrafted free agency this offseason.

    NFL Roster Weaknesses: Examining Each Team’s Biggest Need After Draft, Free Agency

    Thanks to Dallas’ failure to make a notable addition at running back outside of Elliott, the position is still viewed as the team’s biggest need. While the free agent market has certainly dried up, the Cowboys could potentially add another running back via trade.

    There is still plenty of time remaining before the start of training camp, but Dallas is quickly running out of options to improve the team’s backfield.

    Report: Cowboys Decline Trey Lance’s Fifth-Year Option

    Despite the unresolved status of Prescott’s contract extension, the Cowboys aren’t ready to commit to backup quarterback Trey Lance. According to Todd Archer of ESPN, Dallas declined the fifth-year option on Lance’s rookie contract.

    The move shouldn’t come as a surprise, given Lance’s lack of success and the quarterback salary for the fifth-year option.

    Ezekiel Elliott Switching From No. 21 to No. 15 in Return to Dallas

    While Cowboys fans were happy to see Elliott return to Dallas, they won’t be able to reuse the jerseys that the running back previously wore. Elliott is officially making the switch to No. 15, which he previously wore at Ohio State and for the New England Patriots.

    Fans will surely still put their old jerseys to good use and wear No. 21 jerseys next season, regardless of Elliott’s surprising decision.

    Dak Prescott Discusses Contract Situation, Return of Elliott

    Prescott and several other Cowboys players participated in the Reliant Home Run Derby on Wednesday. The event raised over $145,000 for 23 different North Texas nonprofit organizations. While at the event, Prescott was asked about his contract situation, the status of CeeDee Lamb, as well as the return of Elliott.
