The Dallas Cowboys have gotten off to a rough 1-2 start in the 2025 season, and to make matters worse, star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, the team’s top offensive weapon, suffered a high ankle sprain in their Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears and will be out of action for quite some time.
With Lamb sidelined and a matchup against a very good Green Bay Packers team looming, here’s a look at how the Cowboys’ receiving depth chart shapes up for Week 4.
Dallas Wide Receiver Depth Chart
Lamb is expected to miss at least three weeks with the high ankle sprain, leaving Dak Prescott without his top target and one of the league’s best receivers for an extended stretch.
In two and a half games this season, Lamb has earned a PFSN WRi grade of 80.9, ranking 20th among all NFL wideouts. Here’s who the Cowboys will turn to while he recovers.
1) George Pickens
While Lamb’s absence will undoubtedly impact the Cowboys’ passing attack, there’s good news for Dallas. The team traded for George Pickens this offseason, and he’s expected to step in as the new WR1.
Pickens is a true X receiver with excellent body control, strong hands, and impressive ball-tracking skills. He doesn’t offer the same reliable underneath presence as Lamb, but he should quickly become Prescott’s go-to target.
Through three games, Pickens has earned a WRi grade of 76.7, ranking 37th among all NFL receivers. With a bigger role in an offense that carries a PFSN OFFi grade of 83.9, which is the fourth best in the league, he has the potential to thrive.
2) KaVontae Turpin
KaVontae Turpin has spent most of his career as the Cowboys’ kick and punt returner, but in 2025, he’s taken on a larger role in the passing game. He’s been productive through three games, catching eight passes for 129 yards and a touchdown. With Lamb sidelined, his role is expected to expand even more.
Turpin has elite speed and the ability to beat defenses deep, so Dallas will likely use him to stretch the field while Lamb is out. He’s not a star receiver, but he’s reliable enough to hold down the WR2 spot and make plays when called upon.
3) Jalen Tolbert
Like Turpin, Jalen Tolbert has primarily contributed as a return man for Dallas, but his role as a wide receiver is expected to grow after Lamb’s injury.
So far in 2025, Tolbert has been targeted 12 times, catching six passes for 40 yards. In the coming weeks, he’ll see a larger workload and will need to step up for the Cowboys’ offense.
4) Ryan Flournoy
The Cowboys drafted Ryan Flournoy in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he caught 10 passes for 102 yards. Through three games in 2025, he’s been targeted three times. While he still won’t play a significant role in the offense, his usage should increase slightly while Lamb is sidelined.
