The Jacksonville Jaguars entered Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs hoping to secure their third-straight win to improve to a 4-1 record on the season. Unfortunately, the Jaguars faced an early deficit after Travis Kelce scored the first touchdown of the game.
While the play was controversial, some self-inflicted wounds put them in this position. Furthermore, the Jaguars could have tied the game up early in the second quarter, but Lawrence fumbled the ball just before reaching the end zone.
Granted, this play was unfortunate, and he missed a touchdown by a literal inch, but the mistake he made earlier in the game was inexcusable.

What Made Troy Aikman Tear Trevor Lawrence Apart?
To begin the Jaguars’ second drive, Lawrence appeared to have an opportunity to pick up at least a few yards on the ground. However, not only did Lawrence decide to pass out of this opportunity, but he did so after passing the line of scrimmage, which isn’t a common mistake made in the NFL.
After this, Aikman blasted Lawrence, criticizing him for not knowing where he was on the field and for making a mistake that an NFL-caliber quarterback should not make.

“Lawrence lost sight of where he was on the field. There’s a few plays where you’re just left scratching your head a bit watching Trevor Lawrence this year and this would be one of those. Just no idea where he is on the field,” Aikman said.
This led one fan to say that Aikman was “ripping him apart like a butcher on a discount meat rack.”

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time that Lawrence has made this mistake this season, as he also committed this penalty against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.
As if this incident wasn’t bad enough, following this penalty, Lawrence committed a delay-of-game, which Aikman was also highly critical of, and for good reason. Aikman said that this was a bad mistake and that he can’t keep making it, as he also committed a delay-of-game last week on 3rd and 1.
This repeated critique of his game led one fan to say that Aikman was “cooking” Lawrence on the broadcast.

While some may view the commentary as harsh, it is important to minimize the mistakes that you can control as a player. These two plays may not be enough to cause a loss, but they’re the kind of plays that, if you lose, linger in your head after the game.
With Lawrence singing a massive 5-year $275,000,000 contract, he’s at a position where he can’t commit these errors anymore. In PFSN’s NFL QB Impact metrics, Lawrence received a D+ grade with a score of 68.5. Even though the Jaguars are now 4-1 and are projected to make the playoffs according to PFSN’s Playoff Predictor, Lawrence has some polishing up to do if he wants to make a run.
