The Dallas Cowboys possessed one of the most high-powered offenses during the 2025 season. Unfortunately, that was paired with one of the worst defenses in the league, which kept them out of the playoffs. The addition of wide receiver George Pickens elevated the offense.
However, this season was the final year of Pickens’ rookie deal, meaning if Dallas wants to keep him, they’ll need to pay him. On Tuesday, owner Jerry Jones spoke on the logistics of keeping Pickens around.
Jerry Jones Speaks on the Possibility of Re-Signing George Pickens
On Tuesday morning, Jones made his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan. During this appearance, he was asked if he would be discussing the contract this offseason with WR George Pickens directly or through his agent, David Mulugheta. Jones said, “I don’t know. We’ll see how it goes. Probably both.”

Jones’s comments are noteworthy after what happened this past offseason with Micah Parsons. It was well documented that Jones refused to talk to Parsons’ agent, who also happens to be Pickens’ agent, and instead wanted to speak to Parsons directly. This didn’t sit well with Parsons and ultimately contributed to his desire to leave Dallas.
Given that history, it is hard to believe Jones has fully changed his stance on negotiating with agents rather than players, especially at this stage of his ownership tenure. However, Cowboys fans are hopeful that this situation will be handled differently. After all, the offense reached a new level with Pickens in the lineup, and losing him over avoidable contract tensions would be challenging to justify.
According to PFSN’s offensive impact metric, the Cowboys possess the fourth-best offense with an impact score of 85.5. Moreover, Pickens himself has put together an outstanding season. In 2025, he recorded 92 catches of 134 targets for 1,420 yards and nine touchdowns. This has earned him an 88.7 impact score on PFSN’s wide receiver metric, making him the third-best receiver in the NFL.
Though Pickens has been productive this season, he has still had moments of immaturity as he did in Pittsburgh. One notable instance of this occurred in their Week 14 game against the Detroit Lions. After Ceedee Lamb left the game with a concussion, Pickens was seen giving up on routes and not running hard when the team needed him most.
Nevertheless, the potency Pickens brings to the Cowboys’ offense is too much to pass up. If Jones gumbles Pickens’ contract negotiations like he did Parsons, it would be a huge mistake.
