Jones asserted that the franchise will play competitively in all remaining games, regardless of the standings. He emphasized that he will not seek intentional losses and will keep the main starters on the field.
“We owe it to that mirror, and we owe it certainly to our fans that we want to walk out there and be competitive. We will not try for draft position. We won’t be looking at anything like that. We’ll be out there playing football and we’ll bring them to play. So that’s a long-winded way of saying we’ll play football under whatever the circumstances are,” said Jones.
After the interview, Jones clarified his position. He said resting players would make more sense if the franchise had already clinched a playoff spot, allowing key players to recover for the postseason.
The Cowboys, who rank No. 4 in the PFSN Offense Impact metric with a B grade, will return to play this Sunday in a Week 16 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. However, they could face official playoff elimination before kickoff if the Philadelphia Eagles, as heavy favorites, beat the Washington Commanders on Saturday.

Jones remains optimistic about Dallas’ future despite disappointment with the 6-7-1 season. He credits Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark for strengthening the defensive line. The franchise holds two first-round picks (14 and 23) in 2026, having traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers before the season.
“We’ve got some outstanding players, and we’re in good shape with how we’ve structured our salary cap, and I really like the idea that we’ve got some extra picks. I like what we’ve done throughout this year in putting some cornerstones in place that will help us as we go forward. So when I look at our future, our future looks very bright.”
