Wednesday’s CFB Schedule: How To Watch SMU at UCF

The SMU Mustangs will head into Florida to take on the UCF Knights during a rare AAC mid-week matchup. All eyes will be in Orlando as these two teams, who are both in a position to make a run for the conference title, will try to get the upper hand in a close race.

The Knights are coming into this game sitting at 3-1, with impressive wins over Florida Atlantic and Georgia Tech (we won’t really count their season-opening win against an FCS foe as impressive). Their only stumble was against Louisville, 20-14. Quarterback John Rhys Plumlee has been a dual-threat weapon for UCF, leading the team in rushing yards and adding 404 yards in the air with 4 touchdowns. The team’s run-heavy approach, combined with its elite defense, has changed the way this program plays football.

On the other side of the ball, SMU focuses more on a pass-happy approach, attempting 173 throws so far, helping the team average 38.5 points per game. QB Tanner Mordecai has looked good so far, completing 97 of his 166 attempts for 1,385 yards and 12 touchdowns. While these numbers are trending slightly below last season when he was with Oklahoma, they are still impressive.

The opening betting lines have this game pretty close, with UCF laying 3.5 points at home. Factoring in home-field advantage, this number pretty much means that bookmakers view these two teams as equal. Although they both play very different styles of football, their resumes and production so far have been pretty similar.

The total is sitting at a lofty 63.5, with the over juiced at -115. This means that we can expect some fireworks during this midweek AAC showdown.
