The Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Houston Texans will be a special moment for this singer, who will be living her dream.

How Did Angel LaMya Earn This Prestigious Performance Opportunity?

The Kansas City Chiefs were so moved by LaMya’s powerhouse national anthem performance at a Texas College football game that they reached out directly, offering her the chance of a lifetime: singing at Arrowhead Stadium before Sunday’s Chiefs vs. Houston Texans matchup.

For the 18-year-old Kansas City native, the invitation was nothing short of surreal: “It’s an incredible honor to represent Texas College and my hometown on such a big stage.”

She added: “Singing the National Anthem for the Kansas City Chiefs is a dream come true – and it’s a reminder of how faith, hard work, and education can open doors. I’m deeply grateful for my professors, classmates, and especially Mr. Shaw, whose guidance has meant so much to me.”

LaMya posted a video of her anthem performance online, and it quickly captured the attention of the Hunt family, owners of the Chiefs. They personally contacted her and asked her to perform at one of the biggest stages in American sports.

She described it as a dream come true, not just because of the honor, but because her family has always been devoted Chiefs fans. “If you don’t know about that adrenaline, that energy that’s in that stadium, it’s super crazy, and I’m ready to experience it,” she said.

Though she has traveled across East Texas and the Dallas–Fort Worth area as part of the Texas College choir, nothing compares to stepping into the bright lights of the NFL. As the moment approaches, LaMya admits the nerves are kicking in, but so is her determination.

Her choir director, Charles Shaw, will be in Arrowhead to cheer her on, calling it a privilege to support someone who gives her all, even outside the choir room. “You got this,” he told her. And on December 7, just minutes before kickoff, LaMya will get the chance to show the NFL exactly why the Chiefs chose her.

Chiefs-Texans Preview

The Texans and the Chiefs meet on Sunday night, with both teams facing very different pressures. Houston arrives at 7-5, riding a four-game win streak and sitting firmly in the AFC South race. Kansas City, shockingly 6-6 after years of cruising through the West, is fighting just to stay in the playoff picture and may need to win out to survive.

For the Chiefs, everything comes down to consistency. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have seen flashes of elite play, but penalties, drops, and a battered offensive line have sunk them in key moments.

Now, with three O-line starters out, Kansas City has to face a Texans defense that leads the league in points and yards allowed, powered by a terrifying front featuring Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr.

And believe it or not, it’s not like any of their previous meetings. According to PFSN’s metrics, the Chiefs’ offense still ranks 4th in the league with an 85.4 impact score, while Houston sits 23rd. Defensively, the gap flips: Kansas City checks in at 14th, and Houston owns the No. 1 overall defense. The question Sunday night is simple: Does elite defense overpower elite quarterback play, or does Mahomes push back with the season on the line?
