Who Is Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.? All About Alabama DB’s Parents and NFL Connection

No. 4 Alabama’s Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has officially been suspended indefinitely following his arrest over the weekend.

The defensive back was arrested Saturday on three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of attempting to elude and speeding. He was eventually released from Tuscaloosa County jail on a bond of $1,500.

Kirkpatrick, a sophomore, is a Crimson Tide legacy who is the son of a former All-American and NFL standout.

What are Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.’s Family Ties?

Kirkpatrick is the son of former Alabama defensive back and NFL veteran Dre Kirkpatrick — of the same name. He played for Nick Saban from 2009 to 2011.

Kirkpatrick Sr. then went on to an NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals, and San Francisco 49ers. The Bengals originally drafted Kirkpatrick Sr., now 36, with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He was released by the Bengals in 2020 after eight seasons of work and later signed with the Arizona Cardinals.

Kirkpatrick Sr. then finally signed with the San Francisco 49ers but was released in November 2021.

“Unfortunately, with the information that I have at this time, I talked to Dre, and we need to indefinitely suspend him,” head coach DeBoer said, according to ESPN. “He understands there are consequences that come with his actions.”

No. 4 Alabama hosts LSU on Saturday. Alabama sits at 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the SEC, second in the conference. Kirkpatrick Jr. also had one tackle for loss on the year.

Alabama’s defense is currently in strong form under defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. It mainly features a dominant run defense led by a highly ranked defensive line and a versatile defensive scheme.

The defense has shown improvement, but with Kirkpatrick Jr. missing “indefinitely,” adjustments will be necessary. The Crimson Tide defensive back played in all 13 games in 2024 and has currently recorded nine total tackles on the year in addition to one forced fumble.

However, former Alabama football running back and CBS Sports college football analyst Damien Harris recently said he still believes the Crimson Tide is the ‘scariest team’ in college football.

“It’s the fact that everybody wants to say we’re not afraid of Bama anymore,” Harris said. “We want Bama. Do you, though? Because they’re the best team in the country. Look at what Ty Simpson is doing. Look at the addition of Jam Miller. This defense is playing lights out. Most importantly, black hoodie. Kalen DeBoer. I’m scared of him.”

The Crimson Tide (7-1) is most recently coming off a 29-22 win over South Carolina.
