Where Are the Two Teams Standing Heading Into Week 14
Indiana enters Week 14 having put together one of the most impressive seasons in program history. Under head coach Curt Cignetti, the Hoosiers have dominated on both sides of the ball and remain a legitimate national title contender.
Fernando Mendoza has been the engine of this, throwing for 2,641 yards and 30 touchdowns, while adding three rushing touchdowns. According to PFSN Impact Metrics, Indiana ranks No. 1 in offense and defense, and Mendoza sits at No. 2 in PFSN’s College QB rankings.
The Hoosiers have many talented players on offense. Wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. has 740 receiving yards, and running back Roman Hemby has 714 rushing yards. Defensively, safety Louis Moore leads the defense with 68 tackles and five interceptions.
Purdue, led by head coach Barry Odom, has had a difficult season from start to finish. After opening with wins against Ball State and Southern Illinois, the Boilermakers dropped nine straight games and have yet to pick up a Big Ten victory. With the Old Oaken Bucket on the line, however, they would love nothing more than to end the season with a rivalry win, especially at home. Facing one of the strongest teams in the nation, though, makes that outcome unlikely, even with home-field advantage.
Quarterback Ryan Browne has thrown for 1,915 yards and nine touchdowns, while adding four rushing touchdowns. Running back Devin Mockobee has 521 rushing yards, and wide receiver Michael Jackson III has 504 receiving yards. On defense, linebacker Mani Powell leads the team with 103 tackles and five sacks.
Black Friday brings a rivalry showdown as Indiana and Purdue battle for the Old Oaken Bucket. Indiana looks to close out the regular season undefeated and strengthen its College Football Playoff hopes, while Purdue aims to shock its rivals and end the season on a high note.
