Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson declared for the NFL Draft last week after the No. 9 Crimson Tide were blown out by the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl. After going 12-of-16 for 67 yards, Simpson left the game against the Hoosiers early with a rib injury and was replaced by Austin Mack.
On Sunday, reports emerged linking Simpson with a decision to stay in college football for an extra season after a mammoth $6.5 million offer, with several SEC teams also bidding for his services.
Analyst Links Ty Simpson to Three SEC Teams
AL.com reporter Nick Kelly revealed on X on Sunday night that the Miami Hurricanes, who are set to lose Carson Beck after the national championship game, offered Simpson a massive $6.5 million deal to forego the NFL Draft.
Kelly further named the Tennessee Volunteers and Ole Miss Rebels as the SEC schools offering Simpson $4 million deals to stay in college football. During Sunday’s segment of the “Adapt & Respond” podcast, analyst RJ Young detailed the massive deals offered to Simposn by three SEC schools and whether he was worth the hype.
“Ty Simpson is looking at deals worth $6.5 million to stay and play one more year of college football in 2026,” Young said. A deal was offered to Ty Simpson that was for one year and $6.5 million. Three SEC schools are also offering him $4 million. This is the kind of money that is in line with being a first-round draft pick in the NFL.
“Only one quarterback has beaten Georgia in Sanford in the last six years, Ty Simpson. Period. He’s that good. If it’s Alabama, Ole Miss or LSU, there are teams that need him in a very real way to maximize their potential.”
In 2025, Simpson had a $400,000 salary at Alabama, which ballooned to $800,000 with incentives. He succeeded Jalen Milroe as Alabama’s starter after two seasons as a backup. He will likely be succeeded by either former five-star QB Keelon Russell or Austin Mack, who followed coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama from Washington last year.
Simpson led the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff, where they defeated the Sooners in the first round, before being blown out by the No. 1-ranked Indiana Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl. The team finished with an overall 11-4 record as Simpson’s starter.
He tallied 3,567 passing yards, resulting in 28 touchdowns and five interceptions, while adding 93 rushing yards and two touchdowns. According to PFSN’s College QB Impact, he had an OFFI score of 81.7, ranking him at No. 31 in the country.
