Miami quarterback Carson Beck has led the Hurricanes back to the College Football Playoff after departing the Georgia Bulldogs last season. Beck replaced the NFL Draft class of 2025 No. 1 pick, Cam Ward, in Coral Gables and has boosted his draft stock after an impressive season.
Like Ward before him, Beck’s departure will leave Miami coach Mario Cristobal with a QB-shaped hole that he will have to fill next season.
Analyst Reveals Possible Carson Beck Replacement for Miami
The Hurricanes have been linked to several high-profile quarterbacks in the transfer portal, including Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson, who declared for the NFL Draft on Wednesday.
During Thursday’s segment of “The Audible” podcast, analyst Bruce Feldman revealed that the Hurricanes could already have Beck’s replacement within their roster, specifically highlighting the value of backup QB Emory Williams to the program.
“I know there’s people in the Miami program that are really high on Emory Williams, who is the backup,” Feldman said. “He played a little bit when Cam Ward played one half in the Pop-Tarts against Iowa State and he struggled, but that’s a really good defense he played against.
“Miami has swung for the fences back-to-back times, certainly with Ward and Carson Beck, to get the big name.”
Williams was the No. 35-ranked quarterback and No. 627 overall prospect in the 2023 class, and was considered a three-star recruit according to On3. Last season, he was Ward’s backup as the Hurricanes missed out on the College Football Playoff, and he assumed the same role behind Beck this season.
In his three-year Miami career, Williams has played in twelve games and has gone 73-of-116 (62.9%) for 813 yards, resulting in four touchdowns and two interceptions.
Miami Linked to Controversial Portal QB
During Thursday’s segment of the “Inside Scoop,” On3 analyst Pete Nakos linked both the LSU Tigers and the Hurricanes to headline-grabbing Washington Huskies quarterback Demond Williams.
“LSU needs a QB. Sources across the country indicate to On3 that Demond Williams and LSU could be a marriage,” Nakos said. “Other schools to watch, I’d keep an eye on Miami. Obviously, Carson Beck is going to go to the NFL.
“Whenever this College Football Playoff run ends, they could be in the market. They’ve been rumored to be in the market for Leavitt. Demond Williams and Miami could make sense as well.”
Despite signing a lucrative contract with the Huskies, Williams unexpectedly announced his intention to transfer from Washington on Tuesday evening, sparking widespread discourse about the enforceability of college football contracts.
