University of Central Florida head coach Scott Frost could be in massive trouble just hours ahead of their game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Red Raiders are currently in the hunt for the playoffs following their victory over BYU last weekend.
According to PFSN’s Playoff Meter, Texas Tech has a 59.72% chance of reaching the postseason at 9-1. Meanwhile, UCF is still in the hunt for bowl contention at 4-5. However, their insurmountable task has just become even worse following two significant injuries.
Scott Frost In Deep Trouble as UCF Loses Quarterbacks
Ahead of their game against Texas Tech today, it was recently announced that Frost would be without not one, but two quarterbacks. Cam Fancher is the starter at UCF, with Jaccuri Brown as the backup; however, both are listed as out for today’s game.

“UCF quarterbacks Jacurri Brown & Cam Fancher both listed out for today’s game at Texas Tech,” On3 Sports’ Brett McMurphy revealed ahead of the game. This means Brown will have to make a decision before today’s game.
Following the announcement of Brown and Fancher’s injury, Tayven Jackson is the only remaining starter. The quarterback came out of the game against Houston due to a struggle with hamstring injuries, according to the UCF head coach.
“Yeah, Tayven had a hamstring [injury] earlier in the game, and we had taped it up. Just figured that in that situation, [Houston] would probably be coming after us. We needed someone who could get away from the pass rush a little.” Frost stated.
UCF has played five different quarterbacks this season. Jackson has played the most out of any, starting seven of nine games. Fincher, who is injured for today’s game, has been the backup, while Brown served as his replacement.
After the announcement that both backup quarterbacks are out injured, this leaves UCF with just three options at the position: Jackson, who is still recovering from a previous injury, Davi Belfort, who threw for an interception last week, and Brock Hansel.
In the case that Jackson suffers another setback against Texas Tech, the Freshman quarterback, Belfort, will most likely come in to replace him. The Freshman entered the game last week against Houston, throwing an interception on his first drive.
“He came up to me and said, ‘Coach, let’s go win this thing.’ We kind of came up with a couple of new plays for him before that drive. They hit. He did a good job executing them. It’s why I feel terrible for him. I thought he had a really good drive until that last play.” Scott Frost explained after the game.
Currently, the odds are already against UCF with both of its backup quarterbacks missing. Combined with coming up against the No. 4-ranked defense in the nation according to PFSN’s Defense Impact ratings, Frost will have his work cut out for him.
