Where Are the Two Teams Standing Heading Into The Peach Bowl?
Ahead of tonight’s game, both teams are coming off blowout victories against Alabama and Texas Tech. When the sides met previously in the regular season, Curt Cignetti’s Hoosiers came out on top 30-20 in the Big Ten clash.
During Oregon’s shutout 23-0 victory against Texas Tech, Dan Lanning’s defense played a significant role in getting the Ducks over the line, ranking 11th nationally according to PFSN’s DPI rankings. Against Texas Tech, they forced four turnovers and recorded four sacks.
“They’ve earned this opportunity. “I told them to go get their pound of flesh today. They did that today.” Oregon head coach Dan Lanning stated after the game. During the clash between the Red Raiders and Oregon, cornerback Brandon Finney forced three turnovers.
“It’s really important we play well tomorrow, especially when you’re playing one of the best offenses in college football, one of the best quarterbacks.” Lanning also stated during the recent press conference. Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza threw for three touchdowns against Alabama.
During the regular season, according to PFSN QB Impact Rankings, Mendoza finished the season ranked second nationally behind Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia. The Heisman winner finished the season with just six interceptions and 33 touchdowns.
“I really can’t say enough good things about what he’s done since the day we got him till today, except he’s gotta play damn good tomorrow. (Laughs),” Cignetti stated ahead of tonight’s game.
Following those statements, Oregon’s ability to unsettle the quarterback will be vital in tonight’s clash. Meanwhile, it can be expected that both defenses will be making plays tonight, with Indiana ranking as the best defense nationally according to PFSN’s DPI rankings.
