Where Do Ole Miss and Mississippi State Stand Heading Into Week 14?

Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss is 10-1 on the season after beating Florida 34-24 in its last game. The Rebels enter this week on a four-game winning streak and hold a 2-1 mark away from home.

The Rebels are ranked No. 6 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll. They remain a one-loss contender with an opportunity not only to reach the College Football Playoff for the first time, but also to battle for a title in the Southeastern Conference.

Meanwhile, Kiffin’s status is once again under the microscope as his long-term future in Oxford is uncertain, with LSU and Florida posing real threats to pry him away.

Ole Miss is ranked No. 9 in the PFSN College Football Playoff Ranking. Even if the Rebels end up 11-1, the possibility of Kiffin departing could negatively affect their playoff placement.

On3’s Chris Low spoke with a former committee member regarding Kiffin’s situation with Ole Miss’s playoff potential.

“If you’re suddenly without your head coach when they do the final seeding, the coach who’s gotten you to that point, then they could definitely drop you in the seeding order and put you on the road,” the committee member said.

Meanwhile, Mississippi State is 5-6 after falling 49-27 to Missouri last week. The Bulldogs will enter Friday’s game on a two-game losing streak, with their last 38-35 win coming against Arkansas on November 1. They hold a 3-3 record at home this season.

In Friday’s game, the Rebels will aim for their fifth win in a row this season, while the Bulldogs risk dropping a third straight. Ole Miss is also pursuing its third consecutive win in the rivalry.

On average, Kiffin’s squad is putting up 8.8 more points per game this year (37.2) than Mississippi State is giving up (28.4). Besides that, the Bulldogs have surrendered 393.2 yards per contest, which is 100.6 yards less than the 493.8 yards the Rebels are producing.
