South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is one of the best returning quarterbacks in college football after he opted against entering the transfer portal or declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft. With Sellers under center, the Gamecocks regressed badly, managing a woeful 4-8 record after being one of the preseason dark horses for the College Football Playoff.
Ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft, Sellers will be key to any South Carolina revival, with outspoken coach Shane Beamer on the hot seat next season.
Why One Analyst Is Blasting Shane Beamer for Failing LaNorris Sellers
During Tuesday’s segment of the “Crain & Cone” podcast, analyst Jake Crain blasted Beamer for not providing a better offensive line for the talented Sellers and made a huge prediction about the coach’s future in Columbia.
“The offensive line’s been bad for most of the time. If Coach Beamer ends up being fired at the end of this year, it’s the offensive line that has cost him. If you watch them, LaNorris Sellers is running for his life. And he’s huge. If he weren’t that big, he may be driving a van with his teeth at this point. They’ve been so bad in the offensive line.”
Sellers played behind one of the most porous offensive lines in the country and was the third-most sacked quarterback in college football (42), behind former Ball State Cardinals standout Kiael Kelly, who was sacked 49 times last season.
Why Shane Beamer Is Hailing the Return of LaNorris Sellers
During last week’s segment of the “Hot Mic” podcast, Beamer pointed out the benefit of having Sellers back for another year, vis-à-vis other elite programs in the country that have had to get new quarterbacks every year.
“The top programs, in a lot of ways, it’s a new quarterback each year,” Beamer said. “It’s been the same with us. Spencer Rattler was here for two years in a row as a starter. This is gonna be the first time in my tenure that we’re gonna have a QB that’s been in the program for four years and that’s a huge thing for us to have him back for another year.
“LaNorris was the starter for two years, but he was here and he redshirted behind Spencer, so to have someone that has that much investment in this program is huge.”
Last season, Sellers tallied 2,437 passing yards on 60.8% completion, resulting in 13 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, while adding 270 rushing yards and 5 scores, earning a PFSN College QB Impact score of 78.7.
