South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer presided over a woeful season in which the Gamecocks failed to live up to the preseason hype that had them listed as a potential dark horse for the SEC Championship and a highly coveted spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff field. The Gamecocks finished the 2025 season with a 4-8 record.
Shane Beamer Details Recruiting Red Flags at South Carolina
Beamer reacted by recruiting aggressively via the transfer portal in January, bringing in 22 players to rejuvenate his ailing roster and managing the No. 24-ranked transfer portal class in the country.
While speaking to reporters after Wednesday’s spring practice session, Beamer revealed the motivational red flags he looks for when recruiting players to the Gamecocks roster and why he turns away prospects solely driven by the financial compensation offered by South Carolina.

“I get it, there’s a financial aspect at play,” Beamer said. “But if I ask you what’s important to you and what you’re looking for in a school and you tell me, ‘Whoever’s gonna give me the most money,’ which I’ve had players tell me that, probably not the best way to endear yourself to me wanting to bring you into this program.
“Not that money isn’t an aspect, I get it. If it’s the reason you’re coming to Carolina, don’t come because a year from now, when the portal opens, you’ll be in my office again seeing who’s gonna give you the most money. Don’t be a prick and have things that you wanna come to Carolina for other than just who’s gonna give you the most money or any school.”
Just last week, Beamer denied a report by “The Athletic’s” Bruce Feldman that revealed the Gamecocks had enticed offensive line prospect Neff Giwa with a huge NIL payout to snub the Miami Hurricanes and North Carolina Tar Heels to sign with South Carolina, instead detailing the player’s enthusiasm to join South Carolina.

Beamer was placed on the hot seat after failing to become bowl-eligible for the second time in his tenure last season and will be under pressure to deliver next season as the SEC moves to a nine-game schedule, making it even more arduous to succeed in the conference.
The Gamecocks’ coach will be aided by the return of a key trio of highly rated prospects to Columbia next season, including quarterback LaNorris Sellers, defensive end Dylan Stewart, and wide receiver Nyck Harbor.
