Dillon Bell’s Versatility Gets Rave Reviews from Head Coach Kirby Smart

Bell was one of the standout leaders in the Georgia wide receiver room, but his impact on the field extends far beyond just catching passes. He is a highly versatile player and frequently lined up in the backfield throughout his college career.

During his time at Georgia, Bell occasionally played running back, and this week at Georgia’s Pro Day, he joined the running back group to show his phenomenal footwork and agility. His multifaceted skill set has not gone unnoticed, as NFL offensive coordinators who like to create mismatches could see him as a unique weapon in multiple roles.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has praised Bell’s adaptability.

“He’s a positionless player,” Smart said. “He can play TE, he can play Wildcat QB, he can play WR… That’s what they’re moving towards in the NFL.”

Bell’s time at Georgia was marked by exceptional team success, including winning a national championship. He finished last season with a 73.9 score in the PFSN College Football WR Impact Metric, being ranked No. 230 in the nation.

Bell played in 14 games in the 2025 season, making 9 starts, catching 27 passes for 269 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also rushing for 109 yards and adding 2 more touchdowns on the ground. He had 119 receptions for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns over the course of his career with Smart’s program.

Bell also returned 6 kicks for 160 yards on special teams in his sophomore season. He already expressed a strong desire to make an immediate impact there at the next level.

“That’s the first thing I’m going to tell them, put me there (on special teams), and we’ll go from there,” Bell said in the NFL Combine podium interview. “I want to earn their trust. I feel like being on special teams you earn the coaches’ trust, and then you earn the players’ trust, you want to work from the bottom up.”

“It doesn’t matter what round you are picked in, playing special teams will add value, that’s how you stay in the league a long time. Being on special teams, you become a selfless player and help the team – special teams is as important as anything else.”

Bell put together one of the most impressive performances from a Georgia wide receiver of all time in the NFL Combine, including a one-handed catch that turned heads and showcased his skill and athleticism. He has the size and physical tools to thrive as a rookie in the league.
