Jaden Greathouse Return Nears As Notre Dame HC Marcus Freeman Details Recovery Plan

Jaden Greathouse is nearing a return to action as Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman outlines a cautious recovery strategy.

Notre Dame wide receiver Jaden Greathouse endured an injury-hit 2025 season that was derailed by a persistent hamstring issue. Greathouse was expected to explode in 2025 after stealing the spotlight during the Fighting Irish’s run to the national championship game during the 2024 season, but he was limited by his injury woes.

Marcus Freeman Provides Positive Update on Jaden Greathouse

While speaking to reporters after spring practice on Wednesday, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman gave an optimistic update about Greathouse’s return to action for the Fighting Irish.

“When he’s out there, man, you know why Jaden Greathouse has been a huge playmaker for our program,” Freeman said. “And we just gotta continue to be smart with his return to play. We can’t just go from 0 to 100, and we all know that, and he knows that.

“He wants to be out there every play, but we’ve gotta be smart with his progression back. He is just a playmaker, explosive, smart, tough, he’s really, really good.”

Greathouse managed only 73 receiving yards on four receptions in four games played during the 2025 season. He was working on a postseason comeback before the Fighting Irish were left out of the College Football Playoff’s 12-team field.

In an interview with Irish Sports Daily reporter Matt Freeman on Monday, Greathouse revealed the silver lining of his injury-hit season and how it helped build other facets of his personality.

“It was definitely challenging,” Greathouse said. “It was probably the worst hamstring injury that I’ve had. It was an adjustment learning to not be at the center of the offense, having to take a step back and do things for my teammates. I needed to make sure they knew what they were doing to help the offense.

“I’m appreciative for it in some ways. It forced me to be uncomfortable and forced me to grow in ways that I hadn’t yet in terms of leadership and habits off the field. It was a blessing and a curse, but it helped me focus on being a leader and finishing out the rest of the season and attacking this off-season strong.”

Greathouse became a standout during the 2024 postseason after combining for 233 yards on 13 catches, resulting in three touchdowns across the semifinal Orange Bowl victory against the Penn State Nittany Lions and the national championship game loss against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
