Where Do BYU and Georgia Tech Stand Heading Into Today’s Game?

BYU put together a near-flawless season this year, with its only blemishes coming in two losses to Texas Tech. The Cougars finished 11-2 overall and 8-2 in Big 12 play, narrowly missing out as one of the first teams left out of the College Football Playoff.

However, head coach Kalani Sitake remains positive heading into the game against Georgia Tech.

“It is not going to be easy, but I know that I really care and want to go out and have fun and enjoy the game and play tough and take advantage of the opportunities that we have,” Sitake said.

Meanwhile, Georgia Tech will enter the game with a 9-3 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the ACC. Brent Key’s squad seemed determined to dominate the conference early on, but consecutive late-season losses stalled that momentum and kept the Yellow Jackets out of the ACC Championship Game.

BYU will be missing its top two running backs, LJ Martin and Sione Moa, but Key knows the challenge the Cougars present.

“We are really excited to play BYU, a team that I’ve said now numerous times is a team that really should have been in the playoffs this year, with their body of work and what they’ve done,” Key said. “It is a great opportunity for Georgia Tech to go compete. That’s what we want.”

On offense, BYU averages 397.5 yards per game, ranking No. 60 in the FBS, while Georgia Tech’s offense has been a strength, posting 466.3 yards per contest to rank No. 13 nationally. In the PFSN College Football Offense Impact Metrics, the Cougars sit at No. 30, compared to the Yellow Jackets at No. 19.

On defense, Georgia Tech ranks No. 92 in the FBS, allowing 397.0 yards per game, while BYU stands at No. 29, surrendering just 328.4 yards per outing. The Cougars own an 87 score in the PFSN Defense Impact ratings, with the Yellow Jackets close behind at 74.1.

BYU leads the series against Georgia Tech 3-1.
