‘Getting Back to Being Myself’: Garrett Nussmeier Proves Health at LSU Pro Day

Garrett Nussmeier's impressive 69-pass performance at LSU Pro Day could resurrect his slipping NFL Draft stock.

Entering 2025, Garrett Nussmeier was considered one of the premier quarterbacks in the 2026 draft class following a standout season the previous year. Despite a significant dip in production and injury struggles last season, he remains optimistic about his draft prospects.

How Garrett Nussmeier Showed Full Recovery and Confidence at LSU Pro Day

Nussmeier dealt with an abdominal injury on the second day of fall camp last season, which limited his performance. He explained that the injury occurred during routine passing drills, but he showed full readiness during LSU’s Pro Day on Monday, completing 69 of 72 passes to his receivers and tight ends.

Nussmeier expressed how much he is enjoying being healthy again, allowing him to showcase more of his skills, including off-schedule throws and passes on the run, which he considers strengths.

“I’m feeling pretty good, getting back to being myself,” Nussmeier said, via Prep Redzone Louisiana’s Jerit Roser. “It’s been obviously a long process.”

Nussmeier also shared that he plans to celebrate the NFL Draft in New Orleans, wanting his father there to witness his name being called.

“It’s going to be a lot of emotion, you know, one, you know, just kind of everything that I went through this year and the expectations and things like that, to see it kind of come into fruition is going to be unbelievable,” Nussmeier said, via WDSU. “It’s something I’ve been dreaming about since I was, you know, four years old.”

“Almost indescribable in a sense. I don’t know if I can fully describe how I’m going to feel when my name gets called. I’m just looking forward to any team that’s going to give me an opportunity.”

Nussmeier entered 2025 with first-round hype but is now projected as a late second- to third-round pick. However, with his medical concerns now addressed, scouts are reassessing Nussmeier’s 2025 season struggles and viewing him as a potential high-upside quarterback option.

Nussmeier said that he is excited to join whichever team drafts him, regardless of the round, and is eager to prove he belongs at the next level. He told Roser that he has had daily Zoom calls and met with nearly every NFL team, reinforcing his readiness and enthusiasm for the professional stage.

In 9 starts in the 2025 season, Nussmeier completed 194 of 288 passes (67.4% completion rate) for 1,927 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He ended the season ranked No. 110 nationally in PFSN’s College Football QB Impact Metric, with an impact score of 75.9.
