It can’t be overstated how important having a good kicker is to a college football team. Having a guy who can make big-time kicks in big-time moments can make or break a program’s season, and that’s precisely who coaches are looking for on the recruiting trail.
Penn State might have found its next star kicker in Adam McCann-Gibbs, who committed to the Nittany Lions as a member of its 2026 class. Gibbs isn’t just an average kicker prospect either, as not only is he a five-star, but he’s also from Northern Ireland.
Penn State Lands Elite International Kicker in James Franklin’s Latest Recruiting Victory
While recruiting services like 247Sports and On3 do not typically grade kicker and punter prospects on a star rating, they do have a star rating on Khol’s, a service dedicated to specialists.
Adam McCann-Gibbs is a specialist prospect from Northern Ireland who Khol’s has listed as a five-star kicker and a four-and-a-half-star punter. The site ranks him as the No. 22 kicker and No. 36 punter in the 2026 cycle.
While participating in Penn State’s 2025 specialist camp, McCann Gibbs thoroughly impressed the Nittany Lions staff, leading to him getting an offer from them.
Shortly after receiving the offer from head coach James Franklin, McCann-Gibbs committed to the Nittany Lions, joining their 2026 recruiting class, which 247Sports ranks as the No. 8 class in the country.
100% committed ‼️
I’m thrilled to announce that I have commited to @PennStateFball on a full scholarship.
Huge thanks to @coachjfranklin @CoachLustig @_Coach_Tuck @CoachLang22.
This would not have been possible without @TadhgLeader, allowing me to make this dream come true.… pic.twitter.com/MeV09wNqjz

It’s not commonplace for a program like Penn State to offer a full-ride scholarship to a specialist, and it shows how good the program thinks McCann-Gibbs will be for them once he arrives on campus in 2026.
McCann-Gibbs credited Leader Kicking with his commitment post, which is a service dedicated to helping international athletes like himself get opportunities and scholarships to play college football in the United States.
It’s awesome to see an international player be noticed by a program as prominent as Penn State is. Hopefully, McCann-Gibbs will get the opportunity to start for the Nittany Lions in the coming years.

The Northern Ireland native will join two other kickers on the Penn State roster once he joins the team for the 2026 season. He will have to beat out redshirt sophomore Ryan Baker and freshman Matthew Parker for the starting role. Still, even if he has to sit for a year, he’ll be attending Penn State on a full-ride scholarship, which is an amazing opportunity in and of itself.
