‘He’s Done’ — CFB World Blasts Brendan Sorsby for Putting Texas Tech and Cincinnati at Risk

The current situation surrounding Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has left the college football world in a state of collective shock.

On Monday, April 27, the narrative shifted from a standard legal battle over a transfer buyout to a high-stakes investigation into a gambling addiction. As Sorsby enters residential treatment, his current program (Texas Tech) and his former school (Cincinnati) are reeling from a scandal that combines mental health, litigation, and the threat of permanent NCAA ineligibility.

College Football World Blasts Brendan Sorsby for Putting Texas Tech and Cincinnati at Risk

The Bearcats alleged that Sorsby breached a two-year NIL agreement when he entered the portal and ultimately landed at Texas Tech on a staggering $5 million deal.

For head coach Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders, the timing could not be worse. Texas Tech made Sorsby the centerpiece of its 2026 campaign, investing a record-breaking NIL package to lure the elite quarterback back to his home state. Now, the program faces the very real possibility of losing its projected high-end NFL draft pick to a permanent NCAA ban.

While Texas Tech risks losing its investment, Cincinnati risks losing not only the $1 million litigation case but also stares at the consequences if Sorsby gambled during his Cincinnati days.

CFBTalkDaily’s X handle wrote, “Man feel bad for Texas Tech, gonna be without a starting QB and the NIL money gone, probably all on fanduel. This is why we need to regulate NIL, Texas Tech should be able to recover that NIL money that they spent on what should’ve been a great QB.”

Barstool Cincinnati’s X handle took a firm stance and commented, “Just realized, Cincinnati could be punished as a school if Sorsby was gambling during his UC days. F*ck this guy.”

OnTexas Football’s CJ Vogel speculated, “I guess it’s time to lock in Texas Tech’s under win total for 2026.”

Lastly, Wildcat Authority’s Jason Scheer said, “If Sorsby bet on a game that his team was playing in, he’s done. I don’t see how there’s any way out of this.”

Reports first surfaced that the NCAA is investigating Sorsby for thousands of online bets made during his time at Indiana, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech. According to insiders like ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the wagers included bets on Indiana football during Sorsby’s redshirt season in 2022.

While none of the bets are currently linked to game-fixing or games in which he participated, the sheer volume of the activity has put his entire 2026 season and career in jeopardy. The QB could lose his eligibility as a result of this scandal.
