EA Sports Introduces Major Lighting, Atmosphere Overhauls in College Football 26

EA Sports dropped its College Football 26 Presentation Deep Dive, where the company announced major changes coming to lighting and in-game atmosphere.

EA Sports brought back one of the most beloved video game franchises last year when College Football 25 was released. The game was a massive hit, and the company will be dropping the ’26 edition in just over two weeks.

College Football 26 will have some major changes and additions that were missing in last year’s game, and the company has slowly been announcing these as we get closer to the release date. Among these changes are adjustments to both lighting and atmospheres, which should add an element of realism that was missing in College Football 25.

EA Sports Unveils Dynamic Lighting and Enhanced Atmosphere Updates for College Football 26

EA Sports dropped its College Football 26 presentation deep dive on the game’s website on Sunday, announcing some major overhauls to the appearance of the game.

The company has implemented changes to lighting and stadium atmosphere, which should make this product even better than the ’25 version. These presentation updates focus on creating more authentic game-day experiences that capture the unique spirit of each program.

Dynamic Time of Day Transforms Game Experience

In the deep dive, EA announced that they will be adding a dynamic lighting feature to the game. This feature means that as games go on, the lighting will change to reflect the time of day.

“One of the most requested features last year was dynamic time of day. Now, as you are playing the game, you will notice a change in lighting from quarter to quarter. You could start a late afternoon game, then it will be dark before the finish.”

In addition, the company also implemented ‘regional time of day’ dynamic lighting. This feature will mean that a kickoff in one part of the country will look different at the same time in another part of the country.

Finally, the lighting in the games will change from season to season. Fans will notice that the game will get darker faster later in the season than it does in week one games, adding seasonal authenticity to the college football experience.

Authentic School Traditions and Epic Runouts Enhance Pageantry

Another change that EA has implemented is that each college football stadium will have an atmosphere that reflects what that stadium is like in real life.

“College football is rich in tradition, and we’ve worked hard to capture the pageantry that makes the sport special. It’s a huge differentiator from Sundays. From the marching bands to the mascots, every detail is crafted to celebrate each program’s unique spirit,” EA said.

Some examples of this will include pre-game drone shows, for teams that use them in real life, like Clemson, and pre-game light shows that occur at places like Alabama. Teams with drone shows include Arizona State, Cal, Florida, LSU, Texas, Ohio State, Clemson, and Nebraska.

In addition to those traditions, EA has added runouts specific to each school. For instance, the Oklahoma Sooners’ famous wagon will be in the game at the start of their runouts. The developer has introduced a tiered runout system that adapts to the game’s context, with Epic Runouts reserved for special night games featuring light and drone shows.

These may seem like minor details, but in the long run, these changes will be awesome additions to the game. College Football 26 releases worldwide on July 10, 2025, with early access available July 7 for those who purchase the Deluxe Edition.
