Duke vs. Virginia Prediction
Duke enters with a dynamic passing attack led by sophomore quarterback Darian Mensah, who has thrown for 3,450 yards, scored 29 total touchdowns (28 passing, one rushing) and tossed only four interceptions.
His ability to manage the game and make plays with the help of a talented cast of skill-position players that includes Jeremiah Hasley, Nate Sheppard, and Cooper Barkate gives Duke a real shot to keep things competitive. On the defensive side, players Aaron Hall and Chandler Rivers are key to slowing Virginia’s balanced attack.
Virginia, meanwhile, has been consistently at the top of the ACC throughout the entirety of the season, suffering just two losses to NC State and Wake Forest. Quarterback Chandler Morris has thrown for 2,586 yards and 14 touchdowns while adding five more scores on the ground, operating with a deep supporting cast in his own right.
Running back J’Mari Taylor, who’s garnered 997 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 207 carries, and wide receiver Trell Harris, who’s posted 56 receptions, 809 yards, and five touchdowns, have helped Virginia remain at the top.
On defense, Virginia is anchored by safety Christian Charles and cornerback Ja’Son Prevard, helping solidify the Cavaliers as one of the more disciplined defensive groups in the ACC this season.
This matchup should be competitive, especially with Duke’s explosive passing attack and Mensah’s ability to stretch the field. However, Virginia should be able to pull out a win. The Cavaliers, being one of the ACC’s most consistent teams all season, have a balanced offense and a disciplined defensive unit that has carried them into the top-20 rankings.
Prediction: Virginia 31, Duke 24
