Heading into his fourth season as the Colorado Buffaloes’ head coach, Deion Sanders is looking to turn things around after a disappointing 3-9 finish in the 2025 season.
In an attempt to rally the team during offseason workouts, assistant strength coach Morgen Cote delivered a motivational speech that subsequently drew sharp criticism from former NFL defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko.

Cote’s speech, shared on social media, urged players to embrace the program’s identity, emphasizing that it is “one of the most known” logos in college football. She said her family is from Canada but is familiar with Colorado, underscoring the reach and significance of the Buffaloes brand. However, the video invited immediate pushback from fans and former players online.

During Wednesday’s episode of “The Fehoko Show,” the former LSU national champion played the clip while questioning whether Cote’s message offered any practical motivation for a Power Four locker room.
“You couldn’t motivate me to wipe my [expletive] after taking a [expletive], and I got a bidet in my bathroom,” Fehoko said. “You couldn’t motivate me to hydrate in the Sahara Desert, (with) three days less of water. I don’t care what you tell me, and I love women in sports. Y’all know me. I am vocal about it.
“But Deion Sanders, dawg, 0-12 is on the table… Everybody knows the brand of Colorado. Nobody knows the brand of Colorado football. Colorado stinks,” he added.

The College Football Playoff remains uncharted territory for the Buffaloes, whose strongest campaign under Sanders came during a 9-4 run in 2024 led by Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter.
Since taking over at Colorado in 2023, Sanders guided the Buffaloes to a 4-8 record in his first season. A 9-4 finish the following year brought optimism that the program was heading in the right direction. However, Colorado slipped to 3-9 in 2025.
Meanwhile, Colorado’s quarterback experiments largely failed to produce results last season. This year, however, Julian Lewis has shown great signs that could make a significant impact on the Buffaloes’ upcoming campaign.

Sanders reinforced the offense with the arrival of San Jose State transfer wide receiver Danny Scudero, a preseason Biletnikoff Award watch list nominee.
The unit will play under new offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, whose innovative scheme could elevate Colorado’s ceiling. If Lewis and Scudero develop strong chemistry in Marion’s system and the defense takes a step forward, Sanders could have a chance to guide Colorado back to a winning season.
