BYU Football Celebrates After Austin Leausa Lands Raiders Opportunity

Leausa has reportedly received a rookie minicamp invitation from the Las Vegas Raiders, and BYU football also celebrated the move.

“MINI CAMP INVITE 👉 @Raiders Congrats Austin!!” BYU football X handle posted.

Leausa now becomes part of a growing BYU-to-Vegas connection from this draft class, joining wide receiver Chase Roberts and safety Tanner Wall. He also joins fellow offensive lineman Isaiah Jatta in the streak, who also secured deals with the Raiders.

Leausa began his college career at Southern Utah, where he competed during both the spring and fall seasons of 2021. He then transferred to Utah State in 2022 but did not see game action before returning to Southern Utah in 2023.

At BYU, Leausa rotated at right guard and right tackle as a senior, though he primarily anchored the right guard position. He has not only his experience at tackle, but also his work at center has earned praise from several analysts. He built draft buzz by not allowing a single sack across two full seasons at BYU.

Leausa credited Sitake and the BYU coaching staff for helping unlock his athletic potential and shaping his mindset.

“Staying humble and staying hungry has been a big part of this program, especially the past two years,” Leausa said in November. “I think Kalani and the coaching staff have done a good job embedding that into our minds, not only on the football field, but when we go home to our families.

“It just helps us be better. I think another thing that he tries to embed in us is to love and learn. When we love to learn, we learn to love. Essentially, that’s how we’re going to become better each and every week and ultimately do what we need to.”

Leausa’s story stands out as he is also a phenomenal husband and father of two daughters. He balanced the demands of college football with working multiple jobs to support his family before eventually finding greater stability at BYU, which is why he remains grateful to the Cougars.

“BYU has definitely been everything that I could have dreamt of,” Leausa said, via KSL.com. “I’ve always wanted to be at BYU since I was a little kid who grew up coming to the games. Just being here has been such a surreal experience, not only for me, but for my wife and my two daughters. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them.”

Leausa finished his last season with a 73.0 score in the PFSN College Football Player OL Impact Metric.
