CeeDee Lamb Injury Update: What’s the Latest on the Cowboys WR, and Will He Play in Week 7 vs. Commanders?

The Dallas Cowboys have been a complicated team to judge through the first six weeks of the season. Going 2-3-1, they have given stiff competition to the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers, while also dropping games to the Carolina Panthers and getting blown out by the Chicago Bears. Their biggest weakness has been their defense, which has failed to offer virtually any resistance.

On the other hand, the offense has been thriving, with quarterback Dak Prescott playing some of the best football of his life, leading to a top-three unit on PFSN’s Offense Impact metric. What’s impressive is that their success on the offensive end has occurred while CeeDee Lamb has missed a significant portion of the season due to injury. Will Week 7 finally see him make his return?

Will CeeDee Lamb Return In Week 7?

One of the most explosive receivers in the league since being drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Lamb has put together four consecutive Pro Bowl selections, alongside three All-Pro nods.

This year, with Micah Parsons no longer on the roster and the team relying heavily on its offense, he had to take a significant step up. Through two games, it seemed like he was right on schedule, tallying 222 yards.

Moreover, it seemed like he was a few uncharacteristic misses away from taking that number closer to the 300-yard mark. However, tragedy struck in Week 3, when the Cowboys took on the Chicago Bears.

A player who had 15 or more games played in all five of his seasons sustained a high ankle sprain during the first quarter, when linebacker Noah Sewell crashed into him and fell directly on his ankle, causing him to limp off the field.

Expected to be out for three to four weeks, he has yet to make a comeback. His rehab, though, is on the right track, with folks recently catching a glimpse of him working with elastic bands on the sidelines for the first time since the injury.

On Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones provided an optimistic update when asked about the status of three key injured players, which included Lamb as well. “Thumbs up on all. It’s looking good.” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added some additional good news, reporting that Lamb has “a chance” to play in Week 7.

Lamb was limited in practice on Thursday. He also spoke to the media, indicating that barring any late setback, he should be available in Week 7.

The Dallas offense is expected to have its regular WR1 back in the mix in Week 7. After the team failed to capitalize and secure a victory over Carolina, they will be hoping to bounce back against the Washington Commanders.

The Commanders are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Bears on a walk-off field goal, so this isn’t going to be an easy challenge. However, the return of Lamb could be the perfect jolt the Cowboys need.

    Lamb’s Fantasy Outlook

Reporting over the weekend labeled this week as a potential return for Lamb and that makes sense for a receiver who missed Weeks 4-6 and wasn’t placed on IR.

George Pickens and Jake Ferguson have been fantasy lineup staples in the absence of the All-Pro, something I expect to continue to be the case.

Lamb earned 13 targets in Week 1 and 11 in Week 2: his volume will limit the quantity that his teammates see, but the attention he draws should increase the quality.

There should be zero hesitation in going right back to your first overall pick this week, assuming he checks the required health boxes.

Lamb’s most recent double-digit reception game came in this matchup, and while using that as an expectation is probably a little optimistic after a month of missed time, this team isn’t motivated to rush him back and not use him.
