Cowboys Star CeeDee Lamb Sounds Off on Being ‘Targeted’ by NFL After Celebration Fines

CeeDee Lamb says NFL celebration fines felt targeted while reflecting on a Cowboys season that ended short of expectations and outside the playoffs.

CeeDee Lamb didn’t hide his frustration when asked about the NFL’s crackdown on his touchdown celebrations. The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver said league discipline this season left him feeling singled out, even as he tried to work within the rules.

What Did Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb Say In Response to Celebration Fines?

Lamb told reporters he believes two of his celebrations were unfairly labeled violations and resulted in fines and penalties.

“I just feel like I’m being targeted when it comes to my celebrations, honestly,” Lamb said. “Two of my celebrations have been fined or deemed a threat. Somehow, I don’t know. But I get it, though. I work within the boundaries. It’s just breaking my creativity, my creative thoughts, seeing what I can put together.”

The receiver added that the restrictions have forced him to adjust his approach.

“I take it as a challenge,” Lamb said. “I’m always gonna like to entertain my fans.”

An example of this came in Week 2 when the NFL fined Lamb twice. He was assessed $11,593 for taunting in the second quarter and $14,491 for a violent gesture in the fourth quarter of Dallas’ overtime win against the New York Giants. Only the taunting penalty was flagged in the game. The other violation was determined on post-game review.

The fines were part of a broader league emphasis on unsportsmanlike conduct and gestures considered provocative or directed at opponents. Lamb’s comments marked the first time he publicly addressed the discipline.

Cowboys Season Ended Short Of Expectations

The celebration controversy played out during a difficult year for Dallas. The Cowboys finished 7-9-1 and missed the playoffs.

Lamb remained the centerpiece of the offense despite the uneven results. He accounted for 75 receptions for 1,077 yards and 3 touchdowns. According to PFSN’s WR Impact rankings, Lamb graded as the No. 14 receiver in the league, while new teammate George Pickens ranked No. 3, giving Dallas one of the highest-rated duos in football.

The Cowboys’ defense struggled throughout the year after the August trade of Micah Parsons, finishing last in PFSN’s defensive impact metric with a 62.1 grade. That imbalance forced the offense to chase games and limited Dallas’ margin for error.

Lamb addressed the bigger picture this week while speaking with PFSN at a USAA Salute to Service event, saying the roster must improve on both sides to return to championship contention.

“For starters, we gotta fix both sides of the ball,” Lamb said. “We gotta fix the defense. We gotta fix ourselves on offense and just continue to be consistent, do everything we’re supposed to do every week.”

The receiver acknowledged his own production dipped from previous seasons but pointed to the addition of Pickens and shifting coverages as factors in the change.

Dallas will enter the offseason facing questions about how the Cowboys will ever win another Super Bowl. Lamb’s role as the focal point is not in doubt, but his comments on celebrations and competitiveness reflected a season that never aligned with expectations.
