Cardinals Announce QB Decision After Jacoby Brissett Leads Arizona to 27–17 Win vs. Cowboys

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who started his third straight game in the absence of the injured Kyler Murray, took the spotlight once again on Monday Night Football. Brissett even outshone Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott as he led the Cardinals to a 27-17 victory on the road in Week 9.

Will Jacoby Brissett Keep the Starting Job When Kyler Murray Returns?

Head coach Jonathan Gannon was quick to shut down any talk of a quarterback controversy after Brissett’s best outing of his three recent starts. The veteran completed 21 of 31 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a rushing score on one of his five carries.

When asked if Kyler Murray would remain the starter once he’s healthy, Gannon kept his response short and clear. “Nothing has changed,” Gannon said postgame.

The 32-year-old has now averaged 286.7 passing yards and two touchdown passes per start during his stint as QB1. According to PFSN’s QB Impact rating, Brissett is ranked 10th in the season and had an 82.9 score before the latest MNF victory.

Brissett’s command as the signal-caller has also steadied a Cardinals offense that struggled earlier this year. The win over the Cowboys also snapped Arizona’s five-game losing streak and improved its record to 3-5. Across the season so far, the Cardinals are ranked 20th according to PFSN’s Offensive Impact rating with a 72.4 score.

What Is the Latest Injury Update on Kyler Murray?

Murray has been out with a mid-foot sprain that he suffered during the Week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans. However, Murray appears to be close to a return, as he was seen throwing to the Cardinals’ main receiving options on the field during last Tuesday’s bonus practice session.

This was the first time in several weeks that Murray was seen working with Arizona’s first-team offense. The former No. 1 overall pick featured in limited practice on Thursday but was later ruled out of the Week 9 matchup in Dallas.

Before his injury, Murray completed 68.3% of his passes for 962 yards through five games, with six touchdowns and three interceptions, adding 173 rushing yards and a score on the ground. With a PFSN’s QB Impact Score of 75.2, he currently ranks 19th out of all quarterbacks.

Arizona still has a steep uphill climb in the NFC West, where the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks are contending for playoff berths. For now, Brissett’s form has given Arizona some optimism to turn the season around while also giving them a reason to be patient with Murray’s recovery.
