The Arizona Cardinals just picked up a big win on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys to stop their long skid. They did it with Jacoby Brissett at the helm as Kyler Murray missed out once again due to an injury. It took a while for the Cardinals to announce who was going to be the starting QB for Monday Night Football, but head coach Jonathan Gannon wasted no time announcing his starter for Week 10.

Jonathan Gannon Announces Starting QB for Week 10
Gannon was quick to stick with Brissett for Week 10. He took to the podium in his weekly press conference to announce that Brissett would start instead of Kyler Murray.

Gannon spoke about how the offense looked very good against Dallas, and by sticking with Brissett, it will give Murray more time to heal from his injury. Murray spoke with the team and other doctors about the timetable for his recovery at about four to eight weeks. The quicker that he does eventually return, the higher the potential risk of a setback or re-injury will be.

With Brissett’s strong play, the Cardinals won’t be willing to rush Murray back. It’s not a guarantee that Murray will return to the starting job once he is completely ready to go. If Brissett keeps playing well and the Cardinals keep on winning games, then it is likely that the 32-year-old will remain ahead of Murray on the depth chart.

An interesting wrinkle in the entire situation is how the passing offense looked, especially with Marvin Harrison Jr. making a massive impact on Monday Night Football. Harrison set a career high in receptions with seven. The star receiver has often been uninvolved in the offense or struggling to get on the same page with Murray. Last night, that wasn’t the case, and he looked in sync with Brissett in an excellent performance.
Brissett is the 10th-ranked QB in PFSN’s QB Impact score with a grade of 82.8. His sample size is significantly smaller than that of some other quarterbacks, but he has enough passes to qualify for the metric and ranks substantially higher than Murray, who sits at 19th with a grade of 75.2. Once Murray is fully healthy, Gannon will have an interesting choice to make.
The Cardinals have very little margin for error for the rest of the season if they want to give themselves a slight chance to make the playoffs. They are in a brutal division with the Seahawks, Rams, and 49ers, who are all among the NFL’s toughest matchups right now. It won’t be easy, but the Cardinals have tossed away many games, and if they can stack some wins with Brissett, they could find themselves with a chance.
