Can the Bears Still Make the Playoffs? A Look at Chicago’s Updated Postseason Chances After Week 8 Loss

The Chicago Bears lost on Sunday to Baltimore, putting a dent in their NFL playoff hopes. What does playoff picture look like for Bears?

The Chicago Bears entered Sunday’s game on the road against the Baltimore Ravens with a big advantage. The Bears had starting quarterback Caleb Williams leading the Browns offense while the Ravens were putting in Tyler “Snoop” Huntley as their signal-caller.

As it worked out, though, Baltimore got the best of Chicago and earned a 30-16 victory at home. The Bears jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first quarter, but Baltimore answered with 16 points in the second and third quarters to take control.

What Are Chicago Bears Postseason Chances?

With the loss, the Bears are now 4-3 on the season, 2-2 on the road away from Soldier Field.

The Bears could ill afford to lose a game, even at this point, if they want to make the NFL playoffs this season.

After Sunday’s loss in Week 8, according to PFSN’s FPM metrics, the Bears have a 30.4% chance of making the NFL playoffs. Chicago has a 6.4% chance of winning the NFC North Division and a 0.8% chance of making the Super Bowl this season.

Additionally, the Bears have a 1% chance of getting the No. 1 playoff seed and a 0.1% chance of getting the No. 1 overall draft pick.

Chicago needs to get its act together under first-year head coach Ben Johnson. Johnson, known as an offensive genius from his days with the Detroit Lions, will have to get Williams adjusted for the Bears’ next game. Hopefully, for Chicago, it can find a way to keep stacking victories en route to playing in the postseason.

Based on PFSN’s QB Impact metric, Williams is the 19th-ranked quarterback in the league, and for the Bears to have success, the USC product must improve.

Williams has been looked upon to improve this season and get Chicago positioned for more games after the 2025 NFL regular season ends. The fact that the Bears are 4-3 at this point, losing to a struggling Ravens team that didn’t have quarterback Lamar Jackson on the field on Sunday, has to be a bit demoralizing.

The Bears were set up to take advantage of the Ravens’ offensive woes. That didn’t happen, though, as Huntley judiciously led Baltimore down the field time and time again. Chicago has the data now in regard to its playoff possibilities. The Bears have to get their house in order before the rest of this season rolls out.
