The Los Angeles Rams have gotten out to a hot start this season with a dominant 9-2 record through 12 weeks. The only two losses came against the Philadelphia Eagles and an overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
After the big 34-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12, Los Angeles owns the best record in the NFC. With a more manageable schedule down the stretch, do the Rams have a chance to clinch the NFC’s top seed?
Can the Los Angeles Rams Clinch the NFC’s Number One Seed?
The Rams were firing on all cylinders against the Buccaneers, taking down the NFC South leader with a score of 34-7. Los Angeles quarterback Matthew Stafford bounced back from a rough outing against the Seattle Seahawks a week ago, completing 25 of 35 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns.
For Los Angeles, the path to the postseason is simple: as long as they keep winning, not only will they earn a playoff berth, but they will also win the NFC West and clinch the NFC’s first overall seed. Given how the franchise is playing, a road to the Super Bowl through SoFi Stadium appears intimidating if the Rams continue to play like they did in Week 12.

Through 11 games, Los Angeles’ offense ranks as the second-highest rated in the NFL, according to the PFSN’s Offense Impact, with an impact score of 87.8. Meanwhile, the defense is also a top-five unit, according to PFSN’s Defense Impact, earning an impact score of 85.3 to place them fourth overall in the league this season.
According to PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor, heading into Week 12, Los Angeles had a 96.2% chance to make the postseason and a 59.9% chance to win the NFC West. Despite having the Seahawks and Eagles on their tail, the Rams also had the highest chance of clinching the NFC’s first overall seed at 37.6%.
Following the massive win, Los Angeles’ chances of making the playoffs increased by 1.1% to 98.6%. The NFC West chances strengthened significantly as well, rising 5.9% to 67.8%. However, the biggest change came in the Rams’ chances to clinch the NFC’s No. 1 seed, jumping by 19.1% to 48.6%
The win also brought Stafford firmly back into the MVP conversation. So far this season, he has completed 66.5% of his throws for 2,830 yards, 30 touchdowns, and two interceptions in 11 games. The move to Los Angeles has done wonders for his overall career arc as he has won a Super Bowl and seems primed to make a run at another.
Additionally, the acquisition of wide receiver Davante Adams in the offseason proved to be a substantial asset for Stafford and the offense, enabling them to reach a new level of production this season. While there’s still a lot of football left, Los Angeles clearly looks like one of the best teams in the NFL.
