The Tennessee Titans were hoping for a new face of the franchise after selecting former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. While there are still holes aplenty across the roster, Ward showed the flashes Tennessee’s front office would hope for from a first overall pick.
However, after leading the Titans on a game-opening touchdown drive, the rookie quarterback got hit and was forced to go to the locker room for evaluation.
What Happened to Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward?
Ward has played in all 17 games for the Titans this season. While the team has limped to a 3-13 record, he hasn’t looked bad this season despite the circumstances. However, with a chance to play spoiler against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18, the rookie went down on Tennessee’s opening drive.
He completed all three of his passes for 52 yards and rushed twice, with the second ending with Tennessee’s first points of the day, taking a 7-0 lead.

However, on the dive to the end zone, Ward got hit by Jacksonville linebacker Foyesade Oluokun. He was slow to get up and made his way to the blue medical tent on the sideline. After a short evaluation, he walked back to the locker room for further evaluation. Quarterback Brandon Allen took over for the Titans’ next drive.

The broadcast reported that Ward was officially listed as questionable due to a shoulder injury. Heading into the final game of the season, Ward had completed 320 of 537 pass attempts for 3,117 yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He’s also rushed 37 times for 148 yards, and his trip to the end zone today brings his season total to two touchdowns on the ground.
Unfortunately for the Titans, the offense has been one of the worst units in the league in 2025. According to PFSN’s Offense Impact Metric, Tennessee’s offense ranks 30th in the league, ahead of only the Las Vegas Raiders and Cleveland Browns. Ward hasn’t performed too well in PFSN’s QB Impact Metric either, ranking as the 43rd overall signal-caller with an impact score of 59.5.
The Titans will hope that Ward’s injury isn’t too severe. Given the 3-13 record and Ward getting banged up, it seems best to preserve his health and let him sit the rest of the day, as Tennessee has decided to shut down the rookie.
