New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo quickly became a fan favorite this season with his tough, bruising running style. The Arizona State product worked his way into the RB1 role and was beginning to shine before suffering a dislocated ankle. This injury required surgery and abruptly ended his promising rookie campaign.

Despite the setback, Skattebo’s recovery appears to be progressing well. The rookie recently gave fans an encouraging update by showing the current status of his surgically repaired ankle, offering hope that he’s on track for a strong return in 2026.

Cam Skattebo Shares Latest Injury Update

Since undergoing surgery, Skattebo has been streaming regularly on Twitch, often playing World of Warcraft, and interacting with Giants fans. During a recent stream, viewers asked the rookie for an update on his injured ankle, and he decided to show them exactly how his recovery is going.

Skattebo revealed his ankle was still wrapped in heavy bandaging, but demonstrated that he could move it and even apply weight. He reassured fans that the healing process is trending in the right direction.

“I could like get pretty far honestly… I’m getting better every day. Every day, chat, it’s getting better,” Skattebo said.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury in New York’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles after catching a pass from Jaxson Dart. As he was brought down, Skattebo’s right foot got stuck in the Lincoln Financial Field turf, causing a severe break that was captured live on the broadcast.

Giants medical staff rushed to him immediately, and Dart was visibly shaken as his teammate was carted off. Skattebo still managed to signal to teammates that he would be alright.

Reports later revealed that Skattebo had not only suffered a dislocated ankle, but also a fibula fracture and deltoid ligament rupture. He was placed on injured reserve and underwent surgery in the following days before being ruled out for the season.

It was a brutal loss not only for the Giants but also for Skattebo’s rookie season. Skattebo’s style was getting accolades and cheers from Giants fans who were falling in love with how tough and rough he played in the NFL.

In eight games for the Giants this season, Skattebo had 101 carries for 410 yards and five touchdowns. In the PFSN NFL RB Impact metrics, he has an RB Impact Score of 74.7 and is ranked 27th in the league.

The Giants, however, are 2-8 for the season and are looking up from fourth place in the NFC East Division. In the PFSN Offense Impact metrics, New York has an Offense Impact Score of 68.1, ranking 26th in the league.
