When a team enters the offseason with questions about the head coach, it’s important that the coach can put those worries to rest as quickly as possible. This is the story of the Washington Commanders and HC Dan Quinn.
Last season, the Commanders finished 5-12, and the main reason Washington stuck with Quinn was their deep playoff run the year before. Quinn will still need to show he can bring this team back to that level of success, but from what we saw in their last preseason game, that may not happen.
Fans React to Washington Commanders’ Embarrassing Loss to End Preseason
To end their preseason, the Commanders faced off against the Baltimore Ravens, and although it is just preseason, it would be nice to end with a win. Well, that is far from what happened, and instead, they lost 41-3.
Of course, it happened with most or all backups in the game, but it’s still very concerning that an NFL team lost by this much. It’s not all about a difference in talent; it also comes down to coaching, and with this score, that was what the NFL fans pointed out.
Commanders podcast “Hail on Three” brought up that Quinn is one of the likely HCs fired this season, and the offseason has done nothing to stop that from happening: “Dan Quinn is the betting favorite to be the first head coach fired this season in certain markets. Make of that what you will but I’d suggest the Commanders are not having a great summer.”

One Commanders fan stated that they are over the Quinn experience and feel that the team has given up on him: “I’m done with Dan Quinn, this is embarrassing, team not playing for him @Commanders.”

Another fan compared Quinn to a former Commanders HC, Ron Rivera, and said motivation issues have been an issue for the past two seasons:
“Ron Rivera… sorry, I mean Dan Quinn is not HC material. He clearly can’t run a training camp. Two straight years his team looks out of shape and lacks energy. Even guys fighting for a spot in the NFL are playing with zero motivation. 2026 does not look good.”

One fan outright called for Quinn’s job, “I’ve seen enough. Fire Dan Quinn.”

Clearly, the Commanders’ fanbase is turning on Quinn, and this was the worst way to end the preseason. Momentum is a real thing in sports, and a loss like this could destroy the potential of a bounce-back season.
With Jayden Daniels at QB, who finished 7th overall just two seasons ago in PFN’s QB Impact Metric, this team will have a chance to win any game, but the coaching could hurt their chances.
