The New York Jets have looked pretty good in the preseason and are entering the season with some optimism.
Jason Sanders won the kicking job with the Jets but is a player who hasn’t looked the part in training camp. After a missed extra point in the first quarter against the New York Giants, Jets fans are fed up with his poor kicking and want some competition in the kicking room once again.
Calls Mount for Changes in Jets’ Kicking Room
Sanders beat out Cade York ahead of the Jets’ preseason game against the Giants. Both kickers dealt with inconsistency during training camp, but Sanders proved to be the more reliable kicker and won the job.
However, the shakiness showed with his missed extra point, and Jets fans want a change. Fans are calling for some new legs to compete with Sanders or the Jets to move on from Sanders.
“And to tail off that Jason Sanders will not, missed XP, cut ’em,” said one fan.

One Jets fan went to extreme measures to express their displeasure with Sanders.

Even Jets insider Brian Costello vouched for the Jets to move on from Sanders.
“Jason Sanders misses the extra point. He can’t be the Week 1 kicker. Mougey needs to find someone,” said Costello.

“Jason Sanders is not long for the kicking job with the Jets. He won the competition, but his roster spot is far from safe,” said radio host Bill Lekas.
Sanders left the Jets faithful feeling bleak after a great drive by the Jets.
“Impressive [expletive] drive by the Jets backups lol… all running and it worked. 6-0, Jason Sanders sucks,” said one fan.

The Jets had one of the best special teams units in 2025 despite being awful overall. They had great kicking with Nick Folk, who was one of the most accurate kickers in the NFL.
Folk left for Atlanta, leaving the Jets needing an answer. They haven’t adequately replaced him with Sanders, given Sanders’ struggles, leaving fans begging for more competition or anyone else to kick.

New York is loading up for the future. They have three first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft and could find their franchise QB in a QB-heavy draft.
But for now, the Jets are looking to make strides with veteran QB Geno Smith. The team’s fans don’t want potential great offensive drives to be topped off by missed kicks from Sanders, and they’ve seen enough before the preseason has even ended.
