Why Are the Buccaneers’ Uniforms Different? A Look at Tampa Bay’s Creamsicle Jerseys for Week 15 vs. Falcons

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking a little more old-school under the Thursday Night Football lights during their Week 15 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons at Raymond James Stadium.

The Buccaneers have brought back their iconic Creamsicle uniforms for the third time this season, featuring orange jerseys paired with white helmets that include the original Bucco Bruce logo.

Why Are the Buccaneers Wearing the Creamsicle Uniforms Tonight?

The Buccaneers’ Week 15 matchup against the Falcons is designated as the Creamsicle game in the Buccaneers’ 2025 throwback schedule as part of the organization’s year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary season.

They’ll be wearing their complete original 1976 uniform, according to Buccaneers staff writer and reporter, Brianna Dix. The Creamsicle uniforms debuted with the franchise in 1976 and defined two decades of Buccaneers football before the team adopted its now-familiar red and pewter colors in 1997.

Thanks to changes in NFL helmet rules, the Creamsicles aesthetic made a comeback in 2023 and quickly gained popularity among fans. The league now allows teams to wear alternate helmets and throwback uniforms for up to four games per season.

“The modern rendition of the 1976 jersey is a tribute to the team’s inaugural uniform design and its role in shaping the Bucs’ identity,” Dix wrote. “The ’76 Jersey captures the original design detail from the franchise’s inaugural season, featuring the iconic orange numbers with red outlines that the team only wore during that debut season.”

Each jersey also includes a special Creamsicle 50th season patch and the iconic three‑stripe sleeve pattern of red, orange, and red. The set also includes the Creamsicle-era helmets, paired with white pants and striped socks.

Week 15 also marks the Buccaneers’ final appearance in the 2025 NFL schedule wearing the Creamsicle uniform.

How Many Times Have Buccaneers Worn Creamsicles Since 2023?

The Buccaneers have made the Creamsicle uniforms a recurring feature since their return in 2023. Here’s how they have performed in them:

2023: Lost 20-6 vs. Detroit Lions

2024: Lost 31-26 vs. Falcons

2025: Won 29-27 vs. New York Jets (Week 3), Won 38-35 at Seattle Seahawks (Week 5), Tonight vs. Falcons (Week 15)

The 2025 season is the most prominent use of the Creamsicles since their return in 2023, a perfect fit for the franchise’s golden anniversary.

Bucs-Falcons Week 15 Thursday Night Football Tonight Preview

Tonight’s dual-throwback matchup arrives with real NFC South stakes for the Buccaneers. The Falcons are also wearing a retro jersey for this special Thursday Night showdown.

The Buccaneers enter Week 15 with a 7-6 record and are tied with the Carolina Panthers, but still hold the NFC South division lead through superior tiebreakers. The Bucs are currently within the NFC playoff picture, but they’re hanging by a thread.

A win would push Tampa Bay’s division and playoff chances above 70%, according to PFSN’s Football Playoff Meter (FPM). A loss, however, would drop those odds below 50% with two tricky road games ahead at Carolina and Miami.

The Falcons beat the Buccaneers in last year’s Creamsicle game, and with the rivalry deadlocked at 32–32 all-time, the winner would take the 10th lead change in series history.
