Bryce Young’s Rise Continues After a Landmark Outing

The NFL officially named Young the NFC offensive player of the week after he delivered a franchise-record 448 passing yards in the overtime win against the Falcons. The achievement broke Cam Newton’s long-standing mark of 432 yards and highlighted a performance that reshaped the Panthers’ outlook.

According to team officials, he completed 31 of 45 passes with three touchdowns while guiding the Panthers back from a 14-point deficit. The win pushed the Panthers to 6-5 and marked the first time the 2023 top draft pick has earned the honor.

Young downplayed the personal attention. When asked about surpassing Newton’s record, he said, “You didn’t want me to say it first, but I’m still going to repeat it, individual awards, that’s not what I’m after. It doesn’t mean anything. I’m grateful that we won. We had the most important stat today, and it was a win.”

He also noted the significance of being mentioned alongside Newton, calling it “definitely an honor.”

The Panthers became the first team this season to have five different players win weekly awards, joining Young, Rico Dowdle, Ryan Fitzgerald, Sam Martin, and Tre’von Moehrig. The franchise last reached that mark in 2017. Young also became the fifth Panthers quarterback to receive the honor, the first since Newton in Week 7 of 2018.

His statistical output placed him in rare company across the league. He is the only quarterback this season to throw for more than 400 yards without an interception and one of only five players under 25 in NFL history with at least 30 completions, 425 passing yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in a single game.

The group includes Drew Bledsoe, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and C. J. Stroud.

His toughness added another layer. Young played through an ankle injury that required heavy taping and left him limping after the game. Panthers head coach Dave Canales praised the moment, saying Young showed “the resilience” to return and make critical plays despite the pain.

Analytically, his 78.9 QBi grade in Week 11 ranked eighth among quarterbacks, according to PFSN’s metrics. It was his top mark of the season and the third-highest of his career.

Taken together, Week 11 became more than a breakout. It revealed a quarterback capable of high production, late game execution, and understated leadership at a moment when the Panthers needed all three.
