There are very few teams that could feel as disappointed as the Denver Broncos after the 2025 season. Despite a ton of skeptics, they emerged as the one-seed in the AFC and qualified for the AFC Championship Game.
But Bo Nix got hurt, and their chances essentially ended immediately. Now, they are undergoing a shockingly quiet offseason, with little roster movement. However, a veteran NFL analyst believes they could make a blockbuster move by adding Deebo Samuel.
Analyst Urges Broncos to Target Deebo Samuel to Boost Bo Nix–Led Offens
Hosting the best defense in the league, the brilliance of head coach Sean Payton, and some excellence from Nix in the clutch helped them achieve the best record in the league. The offense, though, had some legitimate question marks.
Ranking at number 15 on PFSN’s Offense Impact, it was far from the mark anyone would expect from a contender. However, it was enough to carry them all the way to the AFC Championship Game.
And, if not for Nix breaking his ankle on the second-last play of the Divisional Round, the ceiling for the Broncos remained unexplored. This season, though, it is hard to imagine the team carrying on that trajectory, especially with a host of other teams getting better in the summer.
The Broncos, for all of their excellence in the last two offseasons, have been noticeably quiet during the entire free agency period. While the defense might not need many tweaks with most of their personnel returning to the fold, the offense is still a work in progress.
As a result, veteran analyst Bill Barnwell of ESPN believed they would be the perfect landing spot for Samuel. After a spectacular stint with the San Francisco 49ers, he made his way to the Washington Commanders last season.
However, with Jayden Daniels being out for most of the year, he finished with just 727 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games, ranking at number 34 on PFSN’s WR Impact. Still, Barnwell believes he might be the perfect get for Payton and the type of offense he likes to run in the Broncos.
“Samuel is a dream fit for the Broncos’ offense, where Bo Nix wants to get the ball out quickly when he has a numbers advantage or throw the ball on digs and deep crossers off play-action.”
Even with their current core featuring a plethora of talent like Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, Pat Bryant, Marvin Mims Jr., and Lil’Jordan Humphrey, all of whom have become a valuable part of the receiver room, Barnwell believed Samuel had a “rugged” role to play.
“He could also be a useful runner for coach Sean Payton as a changeup in short yardage or near the goal line, where Nix is often used on sneaks and designed runs.”
Ultimately, for a middle-of-the-pack offense, a veteran like Samuel might be a smart addition as they prepare to repeat their success from this season, and potentially take another step forward.
