This season, the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, after he was promoted from offensive coordinator. Although the Cowboys will not make the playoffs, everyone has been impressed by their new head coach.
With him becoming the head coach, there seems to be some interest in learning about him as a coach and his personal life. Below, we’ll learn more about his wife, Gemmi Schottenheimer.
More About Brian Schottenheimer’s Wife Gemmi Schottenheimer
Schottenheimer is the son of former NFL player and head coach Marty Schottenheimer.
Brian’s coaching career began in 1997 as an assistant for the St. Louis Rams. Over the next few seasons, he spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs (assistant in 1998), Syracuse (wide receivers coach in 1999), and USC (tight ends coach in 2000).
He worked under his dad for the first time in 1998, when Marty was the Chiefs’ head coach. However, the second time he worked with this dad, when Marty was the head coach of Washington in 2001, Brian met his wife, Gemmi.
Brian was hired as the quarterbacks coach, and Gemmi worked for the team. She had no idea that Brian was Marty’s son, despite the two working in and around each other
“When I met Brian, didn’t even know that he was Marty’s son in the beginning,” Gemmi said in 2024.
She also went on to explain that she was essentially an unofficial personal assistant to Marty and had gotten to know the family better before she started dating Brian officially.
Brian and Gemmi welcomed two children together. Very little is known about them, but they have one boy and one girl.
Until becoming the Cowboys’ head coach in 2025, Schottenheimer had never been a head coach in the NFL. He’s also been a coach on the offensive side of the ball. In 2022, he was hired by Dallas as a coaching analyst and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023. He was in that role for two years.
In 2025, the Cowboys and Mike McCarthy parted ways, which opened up a head coaching vacancy, and they chose Schottenheimer. Of course, though, there was the press conference held by Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones after hiring Schottenheimer, which was somewhat surprising.
He said, “If you don’t think I can operate outside my comfort zone, you are so wrong. This [hiring Schottenheimer] is as big a risk as you can take. No head coaching experience.”
That said, Schottenheimer’s wife, Gemmi, learned about the news of her husband getting the job from Jones and his son, Stephen, directly. They called her to tell her the news in January 2025.
“I got out of [Brian’s] truck and started saying, ‘Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!'” Gemmi said to reporters. “I didn’t have anyone to talk to. I was by myself, but it was really special.”
