The Jacksonville Jaguars came away with a massive 31-28 win against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football in Week 5. They are now 4-1 on the season, and are tied with the Indianapolis Colts at the top of the AFC South division.
Unfortunately, Jacksonville suffered a tough blow late in the first half against the Chiefs when tight end Brenton Strange left the game with an injury.
What Happened to Brenton Strange?
In the second quarter, Strange left the game with a hip injury. Three trainers surrounded him on the sideline as he was checked out. Strange spent time on the stationary bike while the Jaguars’ offense was on the field to close out the first half.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that Strange is officially ruled out of the game in the fourth quarter. On Tuesday, the Jaguars placed their star tight end on the injured reserve. He will now miss at least the next four games.

Strange had one catch for 22 yards before he exited with his injury. He has been a relatively reliable target throughout the first four weeks of the NFL season, but wasn’t as involved in their Week 5 game.
Strange hadn’t done much in the first half, aside from a 22-yard reception on a TE screen. He was open a number of times, but Trevor Lawrence has consistently refused to throw to open receivers all night.
With Strange out, Johnny Mundt took over as the primary tight end and finished the game with one reception for seven yards, while another backup tight end, Hunter Long, had one reception for three yards.

The Jaguars’ offense moved the ball pretty well in the first half. A fumble by Lawrence on the goal line was the difference between a likely tied game if the extra point was made and the one-possession deficit that Jacksonville faced at the half.
Following their win on Monday Night Football, the Jaguars’ offense is ranked 14th based on PFSN’s Offense Impact metric with a score of 77.9, and is graded as C+.
Now, they will be without Strange for the time being. Strange is the 9th-ranked TE in PFSN’s TE Impact score. His grade is 81.5 and is barely behind Atlanta’s Kyle Pitts, who has a score of 81.6.
With Strange out for at least the next four games, the Jaguars need to get their other weapons more involved. Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, and Dyami Brown must step up their production in the tight end’s absence to compensate for the loss of his contributions.
