Nick Wright Calls Bills GM Brandon Beane ‘Semi-Desperate’ for DJ Moore, Bradley Chubb Moves

Nick Wright questioned the Bills’ aggressive offseason, saying the DJ Moore trade and Bradley Chubb signing are signs team brass is getting impatient.

The Buffalo Bills entered the 2026 offseason determined to reshape their roster around quarterback Josh Allen and first-time head coach Joe Brady.

The front office moved quickly, making several notable additions on offense and defense. Not everyone views those moves as a sign of confidence.

Nick Wright Questions Buffalo’s Aggressive Offseason Strategy

FS1 analyst Nick Wright questioned the Bills’ off-season strategy. He suggested the aggressive approach reflects pressure inside the organization. During a segment on “First Things First, Wright reacted to Buffalo’s offseason activity and offered a pointed assessment of the front office’s recent decisions.

“The D.J. Moore trade and the Bradley Chubb signing feel like the moves of a semi-desperate GM,” Wright said.

Buffalo made its biggest offensive move by acquiring wide receiver DJ Moore in a trade with the Chicago Bears. The addition gives Allen a proven playmaker after several seasons in which the offense lacked a consistent No. 1 target.

Moore entered the league as a first-round pick in 2018 and has produced multiple 1,000-yard seasons during his career. His ability to stretch the field and create yards after the catch gives Buffalo a dynamic option in the passing game.

The move also reshapes the Bills’ receiver room. Khalil Shakir remains part of the group after averaging 11.7 yards per catch during his career in Buffalo. Keon Coleman, a 2024 second-round pick, flashed potential early but dealt with injuries and inconsistent production last season.

Buffalo also made a significant defensive addition by signing edge rusher Bradley Chubb to a three-year deal worth $43.5 million. The move addresses a pass rush that lacked consistent production last season.

According to PFSN’s EDGE Impact Metric, Chubb recorded 8.5 sacks and 20 total quarterback hits last year. His presence gives Buffalo another proven edge defender capable of disrupting opposing quarterbacks. But to Wright’s point, Chubb is entering the wrong side of 30. He’ll turn 30 years old in June.

The team also reinforced the secondary by adding safeties C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Geno Stone, along with cornerback Dee Alford.

Those additions come after Buffalo finished with productive and effective offenses in 2025. The Bills ranked third in PFSN’s Offensive Impact Metric but finished 13th in Defensive Impact Metric.

Buffalo also experienced roster turnover during the offseason. Cornerback Taron Johnson was traded, while guard David Edwards and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky departed in free agency.

The front office’s strategy aims to strengthen the roster and reshape its identity with a new head coach. Wright’s comment highlights the scrutiny that comes with those decisions as Buffalo continues its pursuit of a Super Bowl title.
