Jaxson Dart burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2025 for the New York Giants. The young quarterback showed flashes of brilliance, leaving Giants fans optimistic that they had found their long-term answer at the quarterback position.
With the addition of John Harbaugh as head coach, as well as two first-round selections from this year’s draft, the returns of Cam Skattebo, Malik Nabers, and a potential year two jump from their quarterback, there is plenty of reason for excitement surrounding the New York Giants. However, Dart’s participation in a political event this week generated headlines, particularly due to a teammate’s reaction.
Boomer Esiason Addresses How Jaxson Dart Situation Could Affect the Giants’ Locker Room
Dart recently introduced President Donald Trump at a rally, which sparked discussion in and of itself amid the divisiveness of politics in 2026. However, the story grew much larger when Dart’s teammate, Abdul Carter, made a comment on social media about Dart’s presence at the rally.
“Thought this s**t was AI, what we doing man,” said Carter in a since-deleted post on X, in response to Dart’s presence at the rally.
While the subject’s politics likely would have sent social media into a frenzy anyway, arguing both sides, Carter’s post created a headline about a potential locker-room issue for the Giants, with the issue aired publicly for all to see.
Since then, the Giants players have reportedly discussed the issue and insist there is no issue.
“I’m glad they all sat down, spoke about it, and said keep it internal boys, do not put it on social media,” said former NFL MVP Boomer Esiason.

Dart ranked as the No. 18 quarterback in PFSN’s Quarterback Impact Metric (QBi) as a rookie in 2025, completing 63.7% of his passes for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions, while adding 487 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.

He and the Giants will look to improve upon their 4-13 record from 2025 and make a push to get back into the postseason in his second season. While the reports say the issue has been put to bed, it remains to be seen whether it will affect the team, and Esiason suggests that how the team plays will determine whether the issue arises again.
“Believe it or not, in the long run, if they win, it will bring them closer together,” Esiason added. “If they lose, then that could still end up being a problem. At the end of the day, football players care about one thing, and that’s winning football games and getting the contracts they think they deserve.”
Winning solves many issues in sports, and if a team is successful, many external issues fade away because it’s achieving its goal, and it’s a fun environment to be part of. However, as has been seen countless times, cracks in a team’s foundation can be amplified when it struggles and disappoints, as frustration mounts and fingers point to who’s to blame.
The Giants were already expected to be a team to watch in 2026 with all the additions and hype around them. Now, in light of this situation, with the team in a major market, the Giants figure to be a top storyline throughout the 2026 NFL season.
