The Buffalo Bills’ season ended after a disappointing loss in the Divisional Round to the Denver Broncos, losing 33-30 in overtime. The team already started making moves, firing head coach Sean McDermott.
There are many more moves to come for the Bills as they begin planning their offseason strategy. One move they’re predicted to make is signing a big-time wide receiver to elevate their passing game.
Buffalo Bills Add a Dynamic Playmaker to Their Offense
PFSN’s Ryan Guthrie predicted the landing spots for some of the league’s best free agents this coming offseason. For the Bills, he predicts they will add a “True alpha target” to their team, none other than George Pickens.
In explaining his prediction, he wrote, “The Bills’ window is now. After firing Sean McDermott, general manager Brandon Beane has no excuses left. Josh Allen needs a true alpha target, and Pickens is the best one available.”
Guthrie then continued about Pickens, saying, “George Pickens is a nightmare underneath and one of the league’s premier contested-catch and vertical threats. He finished in the top three in the PFSN NFL WR Impact Metric and proved what he can do with competent quarterback play. This move screams urgency.”
Pickens was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Dallas Cowboys for draft compensation during last offseason. This season, he proved that he has what it takes to be a true WR1.
In 17 games with the Cowboys, Pickens was targeted 137 times, and he caught 93 passes for 1429 yards and nine touchdowns, making this season easily the best in his young career. As Guthrie mentioned, Pickens ranked third in the PFSN NFL WR Impact Metric (WRi) with an impact score of 88.4 and a letter grade of B+.
In 65 career games, Pickens has caught 267 passes for 4270 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown in his rookie season with the Steelers.
In the PFSN NFL Offense Impact Metric (OFFi), the Bills ranked as the third-best offense in the league. The team had an impact score of 86.5 and a letter grade of B. Adding Pickens would give them the best chance to field the league’s best all-around offense.
Here’s how the rest of the Bills’ wide receivers ranked in PFSN’s WRi: Khalil Shakir was highest with an impact score of 77.7 and a letter grade of C+, followed by Brandin Cooks with an impact score of 72.0 and a letter grade of C-.
Then Keon Coleman with an impact score of 71.3 and a letter grade of C-, and finally Joshua Palmer with an impact score of 69.9 and a letter grade of D+.
