Around the NFL, trades have been flying all over the place, and the craziness has continued. After losing in the playoffs, the Buffalo Bills needed to make massive changes and additions, especially at the wide receiver position.
The Bills could have signed or drafted a WR, but instead, they went to the trade market, acquiring Chicago Bears star D.J. Moore.
Bills Trade for D.J. Moore From the Bears
Since the departure of Stefon Diggs in 2024, the Bills have struggled to find a true WR1 for Josh Allen. The offense has been good enough, but the pressure on Allen was too much, leading to mistakes throughout the games. Buffalo attempted to get WR1 in the draft with Keon Coleman, but it has not looked like a good selection so far.
Going into a season with a new head coach, Joe Brady, fixing the offense was a priority, and it seems the Bills agreed. Finally, Buffalo has secured their WR1, and that is Moore from the Bears.
With Moore being such a high-level receiver, the price was going to be expensive, and in the end, the Bills sent over a 2026 2nd-round pick, but also got back a 2026 5th-round pick.

In 2024, Moore signed a 4-year, $110M contract with the Bears. Before the 2026 season, he will turn 29, and his contract runs through the 2029 season.

For the Bills, this is a win-now move that could help them reach the Super Bowl. The worry is whether Moore can sustain his success as a WR1, but if his time in Chicago showed anything, it’s that he can. Moore also reunites with Brady, who coached the star receiver during their time together with the Carolina Panthers.
The main reasons the Bears made this trade were Moore’s contract and the fact that younger WRs were taking away the veteran’s snaps. It was time for Chicago to move on from Moore, and now the Bears can focus on pursuing more expensive free agents, such as center Tyler Linderbaum.
