Marlon Humphrey has never been shy about sharing his opinions, but his latest take has put the Baltimore Ravens cornerback in an uncomfortable spot with his own fan base.
A bizarre case involving a man accused of impersonating a San Francisco 49ers player has drawn national interest, and Humphrey’s defense of the accused has only intensified the discussion.
For Ravens fans, the issue is less about football and more about where Humphrey drew the line when discussing an alleged financial scam.
Marlon Humphrey Defends Daejon Love as Ravens Fans Blast His Take
Humphrey addressed the case on “The Marlon Humphrey Show,” questioning whether Daejon Love’s alleged conduct justified criminal charges.
Love, 35, was arrested by the FBI at Boise Airport on Aug. 24 and faces federal charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
“We don’t know his story. We haven’t let him speak yet,” Humphrey said. He later added, “I don’t know how deep he went down the rabbit hole with scamming. I will be honest. But I feel like you should not go to jail for lying. Free Daejon, man!”
Humphrey also questioned what crime Love had committed, saying, “What crime has he truly committed? They say he had fake documents. From my understanding, and it might be a lack thereof, this was a conversation. I say, free Daejon!”
The cornerback then referenced an account from one of his teammates, saying Love allegedly told someone, “I can 10x you in four days.” Humphrey responded, “Come on, how can you believe that?”

Federal prosecutors, however, allege the case involved much more than a false NFL identity. Love allegedly spent years posing as a 49ers receiver, complete with staged football-related details, before using romantic relationships to gain victims’ trust.
Prosecutors say he and 18-year-old Taylor Jamie Chan allegedly used fake investment opportunities to defraud at least 26 women of more than $1.3 million.
This distinction became the center of the backlash from Ravens fans on X.
One fan invoked another infamous financial fraud case, asking Humphrey, “What crime did Bernie Madoff truly commit?” The sarcastic comparison pointed to the scale of the harm caused by financial deception, with Madoff’s Ponzi scheme estimated at $64.8 billion and ultimately leading to his conviction on multiple federal charges.
