The Arizona Cardinals are suffering heavily from the injury bug. Injuries have ravaged their running back room, Kyler Murray has missed several weeks, and Marvin Harrison Jr. is out with appendix issues. But the Cardinals might be receiving some relief with a potential return looming for Trey Benson.
Cardinals’ Latest Update on Trey Benson
The Cardinals have lost RBs James Conner, Emari Demercado, and Benson to injury at different points of the season.
Conner and Benson landed on injured reserve, and Conner will stay there. On the other hand, the Cardinals activated Benson’s 21-day practice window, setting him up to return sometime within the next three weeks.

Benson was limited in practice on Wednesday. He didn’t have a brace on his knee after injuring it in Week 4. Benson was set to take on a significant role following Conner’s injury, but his own injury complicated that. Now, he will likely get his chance to be the starting running back ahead of the current backfield, Bam Knight, and Michael Carter.
Benson might not be on the field for Arizona in Week 12, but his return is any game now. Arizona had high hopes for Benson after selecting him in Round 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft. Now, they get to see whether he’s worth the draft pick when he eventually returns. Replacing Conner is no easy task, but taking over for Knight won’t be too difficult because Knight didn’t prove anything to deserve the job for a sustained period of time.
The Cardinals’ offense isn’t the worst despite all of the injuries. They are ranked 20th in PFSN’s Offense Impact score. Their grade is slightly below-average at 72.4.
Jacoby Brissett has been great filling in for Murray, leading the offense. Brissett had a record-breaking performance despite getting blown out by the 49ers in Week 11. He completed an NFL record 47 passes and threw for over 450 yards. The Cardinals’ season is ruined, though. They sit at 3-7 and have been destroyed in their last two games.
They have the Rams two more times on the schedule, the Buccaneers soon, and even the Jaguars. It is safe to say that the Cardinals won’t be playing meaningful football in January, barring a miracle. They will have to take a long look at their roster and evaluate where they can be improved heading into the 2026 season. Until then, the Cardinals have to keep on chugging with whoever can suit up.
