Five-time Pro Bowl running back Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints has been one of the most reliable players for the team during his nine-year NFL career. Kamara has been with the Saints throughout his NFL career and has been the anchor of the team’s rushing attack.
While Kamara has played in all five games for the Saints in the 2025 NFL season, it’s unclear whether he’ll be available in Week 6.

What Happened to Alvin Kamara?
Apparently, Kamara tweaked his ankle during practice on Wednesday. It’s something that the Saints’ medical staff will have to watch closely.
Will this affect his ability to play on Sunday? Dr. Jesse Morse offered some thoughts on Kamara’s situation in a post on X on Wednesday. “We hear that Alvin Kamara, who came out of this past week’s game pretty good, actually suffered an ankle injury in practice today,” Morse said.
“Now Nick Underhill, one of the top beat reporters in the nation who covers the Saints, ends up tweeting here saying it doesn’t sound overly concerning and that he, in my opinion, likely suffered it during practice,” Morse said. He added that Kamara’s injury is probably a mild lateral ankle sprain that’s more annoying than concerning.
The Saints square off against the New England Patriots on Sunday at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Morse said he expects Kamara will play and that Kamara probably will be more of a receiver than running back in the Saints’ offensive plans.
Saints head coach Kellen Moore discussed injuries in a press conference on Wednesday. Kamara was a limited participant in practice. Moore called it “a little something” and said it is “nothing concerning.”
The Saints’ star running back was a limited participant in Thursday’s practice. On Friday, the Saints announced that Kamara will be questionable for the Week 6 game against the Patriots.
In the Saints’ five games, Kamara has rushed 73 times for 283 yards and one touchdown. On the receiving end, Kamara has caught 17 passes for 77 yards and no touchdowns behind starting quarterback Spencer Rattler. The Saints started the season on a four-game losing streak before beating the New York Giants 26-14 last Sunday.
According to PFSN’s RB Impact metrics through five games, Kamara has scored 76.3. In the PFSN Offense Impact metric, the Saints offense has a 70.6 score.
Fantasy Football Outlook for Kamara
As fantasy football players are getting their teams lined up for Week 6, they probably want some intel on Kamara and what they should do. PFSN’s Jason Katz and Kyle Soppe have some thoughts on Kamara for fantasy players.
“I was out on Kamara this offseason (and last offseason if we are being honest) and the pushback I got was always the same,” Soppe wrote.
“‘Yeah, it’s not pretty, but he’s the best player on this team and offers a floor thanks to his versatility that it’ll be tough for him to outright fail,'” Soppe wrote. “That’s a perfectly reasonable argument, but this Saints offense is bringing it into question.
“Kamara has more fumbles lost since Week 1 than touchdowns, doesn’t have a game with 30 receiving yards this season, and doesn’t have a 25-yard rush since September … of 2021,” Soppe wrote. “What makes him drastically different from Chase Edmonds?
“I’m not labeling either as a must-start, and if you have a receiver with a 6-8 target projection, I wouldn’t hesitate to make that decision in flex spots (I’d rather take my chances on DeVonta Smith, Ladd McConkey, or DJ Moore types),” Soppe wrote.
The Saints still could use Kamara on offense in a different way than the run game. Even having him on the field will make the Patriots think twice about his quad injury.
