There was controversy surrounding the New York Giants’ decision to trade back into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. Many fans and media members doubted his potential to be a franchise quarterback.
But after his stellar preseason performance Saturday against the Buffalo Bills, supporters are now pointing out a clear difference between him and former Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
Giants Fans Celebrate Jaxson Dart’s Preseason Debut, Claim He’s Already Better Than Daniel Jones
The Giants have dealt with mediocre quarterback play ever since drafting Daniel Jones with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. However, they may have found their answer after Dart’s NFL debut against the Bills today.
Dart completed 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards, including a beautiful 29-yard touchdown throw. After that performance, fans noticed the clear difference between a Dart-led offense and a Jones-led offense.

After Dart’s stellar debut, Giants fans quickly expressed their excitement about moving on from the Jones era, with many saying Dart is already a clear improvement.

Another fan echoed that sentiment, saying how refreshing it is to no longer watch Jones play quarterback for the Giants.

Fans were also quick to highlight the difference between Dart and Jones, pointing to the rookie’s willingness and accuracy on the downfield touchdown pass. One fan noticed how poised Dart looked while making the throw, even under pressure.

While another fan seemed relieved to see a Giants quarterback actually pushing the ball downfield.

It may be just one preseason performance, but it’s clear New York fans were more than ready to move on from watching Jones on Sundays. Dart still has a lot to prove before he can officially claim the Giants’ starting job and show the world he’s better than Jones, but it was a fantastic NFL debut nonetheless.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll has already named veteran Russell Wilson as the starter, so fans will have to wait to see Dart lead New York’s offense in the regular season. But keeping him on the bench for long will be hard if he keeps performing like this.
